Paulie wasn’t actually a “Boss”. He was a Capo Regime (Captain), which basically meant he was in charge of a crew. He was part of the Lucchese crime family and the Boss was a guy named Vic Amuso. But Jimmy, Henry, and Tommy were part of Paulie’s crew which meant they kicked up to him and had to listen to what he told them to do.

Yes, that scene from the Sopranos with Christopher shooting the clerk in the foot was an homage to Goodfellas. When Christopher is leaving the pastry shop, the guy who he shot cries "you shot me in the foot". Christopher replies, "It happens!" CLASSIC!

Joe Pesci's character's Tommy DeVito is based on Tomas DeSimone who was around 6"3" and 220 pounds. Pesci's DeVito was more "dark" comic relief where as DeSimone was a true psychopath and scared pretty much all of the other gangsters. He disappeared when he was 28 after killing at least 7 people.

Fun fact: The lady who played the roll of Tommy’s mom is actually Martin Scorsese’s real mother. And Henry’s old cellmate with the big glasses that was putting too many onions in the sauce is Scorsese’s real father. One of his first films is called “Italian American” and it’s basically him interviewing his parents in their home and talking about Italian American culture in New York. A lot of funny stories. It’s a fun movie to watch. Mama Scorsese is hilarious. You can tell she was the life of the party.

When Tommy says “ look at my eyes “ as he’s stabbing him to death was dark and as close to the real Tommy as you’ll see in any mafia doc.And you mentioned the glamourizing scenes but like all Scorcese mob films, he shows the darker side and how in the end it all goes sideways and people die, turn on each other and it’s not so glamorous after all.

The Sopranos creator David Chase originally wanted Robert De Niro or Ray Liotta to play Tony Soprano and Lorraine Bracco to play Carmella..both De Niro and Ray Liotta turned it down because they weren't interested in doing Television series at the time since drama shows weren't really big at the time. Lorraine didn't want to play Carmella because she claimed that she's done that role before in Goodfellas but was convinced to play the Psychiatrist . Loved your reaction and really hope you get to these highly recommended Mob films... "Casino" (1995) directed by Scorsese/reuniting De Niro and Joe Pesci with Sharon Stone. Fantastic, fantastic reaction commentary to this movie, you are the perfect reactor for this! Do not miss "Casino" which is practically a sequel to this, it's basically Goodfellas II: The Vegas Years. De Niro, Pesci, Scorsese, Sharon Stone, James Woods, 1995. Also Scorsese and De Niro's first collaboration together, "Mean Streets" (1973), the year before De Niro did Godfather Part 2 and playing a completely different kind of character! I'm sure you've already seen "Raging Bull", right? Pesci's first collaboration with De Niro and Scorsese? That's another must-see, it has some mob overtones. (Lastly, for mob movies: "Donnie Brasco" with Al Pacino and Johnny Depp, another true mob story and the only other mafia movie that approaches Godfather 1 & 2, and Goodfellas & Casino. Thomas DeSimone (the real life character played by Joe Pesci) was an unhinged psychopath who had no problem murdering women and children. One day, Henry said that they were walking in the street and Tommy had bought a new gun and he shot and killed a random guy in the street just to try it and wasn't the least bothered by this senseless murder. Just like in the movie he killed that waiter who told him to go fuck himself and he killed Billy Batts who told him to go bring his fucking shinebox. Truth is that Tommy's body was never found, he disapeared in 1979 and the accepted theory is that he was whacked by future crime boss of the Gambino familly John Gotti who was a close friend of Billy Batts. Gotti had to get permission from Paulie as Paulie was a capo in the Lucchese familly and Paulie probably gave the go-ahead because Tommy was too much of a liability and the real money was with Jimmy.

19:26 No, this is wrong. Within the rules of Cosa Nostra, Billy Bats can insult and humiliate Tommy as much as he wants. If Tommy tries to do anything about it, Tommy will be ruled to be in the wrong because Billy Bats is a Made Man, and Tommy isn't. It's an instant death sentence to raise your hands to a Made guy in the mob. Within La Cosa Nostra, the only thing Tommy can do is sit there and take it.
