So, you ever figure it out? For reference, the key is supposed to be "standing up" if the can is sitting flat, and you open it by "rolling" the key along the side of the can so that the tab _wraps around the key,_ sorta like rolling up a rug or something.

to be fair to Rosemi sama, in my country, all the canned food come with a pull tab so you can just use brute force and pull the lid open to get to your food instead of having to take 4 semesters of advanced rocket science from the far future just to fail to open the can anyway and then realize a knife would do the trick

It's not rocket science from the far future. It's incredibly primitive and obsolete tech from the world wars that noone reasonable uses anymore. ...kinda like spam! (Also, I only learned how to use it because of how much Cartoon Network used to run old looney toons back in the day when the internet ran on dialup so streaming wasn't a real thing and we mostly just had whatever the networks put on air to watch)
