I was looking for this video 2 days ago after I watched Happiness for the first time, and I am glad to see this video pop up in my feed today.

I'm wont to compare HAPPINESS to Woody Allen's HANNAH AND HER SISTERS in plot and style. Allen's wonderfully optimistic story is made explicitly pessimistic by Solondz' incisive script. It's hard to pick my favorite between the two, but it definitely shows how influential Woody Allen has been on filmmakers like Todd Solondz. I also think it's important to mention that LIFE DURING WARTIME is a direct sequel to HAPPINESS and superbly wraps things up with brilliant originality. It was great to finally get HAPPINESS in fine HD presentations from Criterion. Thanks for the detailed retrospective of one of my favorite films. Your Solondz impression was right on as well.

Seen this one a few times. There are parts that might be the most uncomfortable in any film ever made? Good one, and glad we finally got a proper release.

I’ve never seen this film, but I’ve defiantly heard a lot about it. This seems to be quite a movie to say the least. The cast is definitely stacked. I’m glad to hear your thoughts about Happiness Daisuke, I hope you’re doing well. Please have a great night and take care!

Happinnes is everything the overhyped American Beauty didn't have the guts to be.

They're not even going for remotely the same tone or themes or ideas or anything. All they share is the concept of "the dark side of happy suburban americana" in which case they're both riffing on Blue Velvet.
