Arigato gozaimasu. This was an excellent refresher lesson on grip and posture. Showing the incorrect way helps as well. Good work with your basics playlist as it is a good lesson plan.

I have been feeling stuck for the past few months since I was told to improve my Te no Uchi with no clear understanding of the basic grips and how to apply them. You show the shape of your hand - the grip - before taking the sword in this video, as well as a very simple and clear Shibori. That simplicity made these abstract concepts - Te no Uchi and Shibori - easy for me to follow. Thank you for your guidance, and for this video! 🙇

I like today's style very much. The previous videos were intense in content, but I had to replay a lot, and felt much pressure. I feel much better after practicing with you. A whole day's tire from work is gone.

Sensei kaz what is the proper japanese terminology for gripping the sword? I read it referred to as te-moto= hand positions is this correct?
@SAMURAIKAZARTS3 жыл бұрын
"Temoto" is correct. And a "Girip" means "nigiru" in Japanese. Grip the sword means "katana wo nigiru" These are literally just a gripping. But when you strike little bit grip your both hands like a squeeze to inside. This is also called “nigiru” in Japanese, but this situation is not just gripping. This movement and technique is called “te no Uchi” in Japanese. This means How to grip when you strike.

Thank you for posting this video. It's an invaluable lesson that sometimes tends to be forgotten by predominantly self-taught people like myself. Would you have guidelines on Kirite for kiriage? :)
