In the first edition of this semester’s Critical Issues Confronting China series, Professor Ji Li discusses the behavior of Chinese multinational corporations in the face of geopolitical tensions, particularly between the United States and China. He highlights the differences between state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and privately owned enterprises (POEs), noting that SOEs prioritize compliance with Chinese regulations and are subject to extensive regulation by the state, while POEs prioritize profit maximization and adapt to the local institutional context. Li also discusses the coping strategies of Chinese multinational corporations, including lobbying, compliance, and litigation. Professor William C. Kirby notes that current tensions between the U.S. and China have led to a decline in U.S. openness to foreign investment, which may have long-term consequences for American economic power.

Here is when professors & lawyers forgot to speak succinctly to educate their audience especially when they failed to explain or put out captions what SOEs POEs etc mean. It would have helped to follow their points in discussion. 😊

Autocratic Xi the chairman of everything will cure all Chinese problems in the "echo chamber" leadership style he has created. Yea good luck with that...

You must be kidding! US got it totally wrong on China. Thank God, Covid unraveled the truth about China. Yes, US leadership is incompetent similar to China. Xi let the cat out of the bag prematurely thereby showing his incompetence or his overconfidence.

Critical Issues Confronting China seems mild in comarison to Critical Issues Confronting U.S! and yea China leadership sure is ahead in competency to resolve any problems compare to US and most West countries. Advice to these individuals, go tackle and solve U.S Critical Issues, that would be better use of time and resources. tsk tsk

Prof Li : "Complying with USA Law would bridge Chinse Law ; Complying with Chinese Law would bridge USA Law" Well, China export to Mexico had vastly increased in 2022/23, Mexico exports to USA had vastly increased in 2022/23 too. Asians especially China are always flexible, pragmatic to deal with problems and circumvent the issue and eventually finding a solution.

Some states in US invested billions in Chinese state municipal bonds and are losing their pants. No wonder, China wants FDI from USA!

To deal with China, the priority is to thoroughly understand and able read Communism's idea and behaviour and also what are the Chinese factors added on the Communism, the Chinese version of Communism. Else whatever discussion or talking about China is waste of time and going to be not realistic at all.
