CRITICAL Locations & Habitats For Ground Blind Hunting!
When choosing a location to set a ground blind up its important to look at the habitat and see if you have the right trees to brush it in. In my experience its best to match the habitat.

I hunted out of a ground blind last hunting season in Tennessee on our property about an acre of mostly hardwoods shot a doe, turkey, and an 8 point was amazed at how close the wildlife walked past that blind

That’s awesome to hear. It definitely a different experience hunting on the ground eye level!

GREAT VIDEO! Being a old hunter, I hunt elk, deer, turkey almost exclusively from ground blinds. I agree! The better your ground blind is brushed in, the better. However, I would to add a word about hunter orange safety on public land. I add a hunter orange cover to the top of my blind and brush in only the sides. Some states require the added orange to a blind. Frankly, I would not public land hunt from a ground blind without orange.

A lot of hunters think they could just erect a camo ground blind and they are good to go.. Great info as alway Dave!!

Yes that’s true. In a very very small percentage of times it may work but just times not! Thanks 🙏

I built a box blind at the end of last season going to try to put it out this year really spend some time painting it to look like a tree line pretty cool

Very cool. Just make sure to set that back in the timber a little if your going on a field edge and you can sneak up to the back side and get in. 👊

I got a buck 8 feet from me too last year with a ground blind, I was in a crappy fabric blind that I put up with 2” pvc hammered into the ground twisted to the poles with electrical wire, right in the middle of a cattail/bryer patch on the edge of a small wheat patch that I knew their trails were coming in on. I brushed it in with Spruce and evergreen stuck some tree limbs right into some of the PVC poles. I access right through the back door and they never know I’m there

Definitely good information, the better you blend it in the better! I personally would rather be in a tree stand, but have hunted in ground blinds with success. 👍

Thanks. I really do enjoy the ground blind but like you said I’d rather be in the stand.

Spot on with brushing a blind in. Breaking that roof outline up for sure is most important.. However, from my experience deer will get use to a brushed in blind in a week or so regardless of dead or live limbs. I’ve killed servaral bucks from a ground blind. Actually prefer it, much safe and more comfortable. You can’t beat a good ground blind on a cold windy Kansas morning.

Yes that’s for sure. And they definitely can get used to it quicker in some cases. Just depends on the area. Highly pressured it’s going to take more effort for them to get used to it. It’s definitely a cool experience being eye level with them! 👊

Would you recommend setting up a blind close to an existing tree stand? I only have 1 area to hunt but the tree stand is used for rifle season but is to far away to be used for bow.

Yeah I’ve done that before as long as the habitat matches and there’s no risk of spooking deer. I’d say go for it

Just save time and money and get a ghost blind that you can hunt out of the same day you set it up. No worry about extra camouflage because what ever is around you is your camouflage. It also makes it easier to hunt with wind direction.

I use them more for a run and gun sort of thing. I think if you just set it up the deer are usually pretty curious about it. I set one up one day then had a 9 point come within 2 yards and look in the window i couldn't draw my bow but it was a awesome experience.

That is a awesome experience up close on the ground like that: it all depends honestly. Each area will be different but in a general sense they should be brushed in pretty good. 👊
