Critical Realism - What is Critical Realism?

What is Critical Realism? Chris Lipp describes critical realism and goes into some of the deeper challenges that face researchers adopting this approach. It does appear complex the more you get into it, but that is because there are numerous interpretations and ways you can approach this epistemological position.

Would have been good to have a short primer of the taxonomy/venn/matrix of philosophy with a short description and then drill into epistemology and down through to critical realism.
