Well there aren't many good channels out there for board games. Yours by far is the best channel for board games. You review a wide variety of games, and do very in-depth reviews, which is great for people if they're not sure if they're going to buy a game or not. Your channel actually got me into playing table top/board games, so I am incredibly happy. Thank you for everything!

You could use the LoS rules in Imperial Assault (which uses the Descent engine). Its basically the same, with one important difference from what you have shown here. That is, you have to be able to draw a line to TWO corners of the enemy square from one of your corners - both lines must be clear to have LoS.

Glad you liked the review, but sorry I glossed over the dice. Essentially, the blue die is the attack die and is always rolled with the attacks. The yellow and red dice are power dice that depending on the attack, can be added to the blue dice's roll. The brown, gray, and black are for defense. Each die has different percentages to hit, and has better results for damage, surges, or defense shields. Hope that helps.

Larry and Tim at InD20 are great guys. I too love Drakenstrike's videos. He took some time off, resurfaced at Gen Con this year, and allegedly was going to be doing more, but I haven't seen nor heard about him doing more since then. He had a great style, great overviews, and well produced videos I thought too, which makes it more of a shame he doesn't still do them. That all said, I do thank you, kind sir, for watching my channel and hope you continue to enjoy these :)

Great review! Just a note, the arrow icon on the abilities doesn't mean 'tap the card and exhaust to use', it actually means you need to spend an action to use the ability. Otherwise really great coverage.

First, thanks for watching and commenting. We take the shortest path from one corner of the attacker's space to the defender's space. Making it the shortest path seems to make more sense in most cases for us. We've played both ways, and while I personally like the shortest line rule, we've gone through the whole campaign with the true rules and it doesn't take away from the experience if you don't use that "house rule".

I had talked to you before, on a my old account about this and Castle Ravenloft. I finally grabbed this up, along with LOD, and zombicide this week... I love it!!! Just played my first quest, solo, lol. Was only a 2 turner, very lucky early damage on the Ettin for the heroes, followed by a stun. I tried to rush the goblins out, but didn't have enough time to save the Ettin, which after the first attack had only 2 hp left (he got the hell whacked out of him.) Kick ass game.

We take the shortest path from box to box. If it crosses through anything, LOS is blocked. Makes it a bit more challenging, but more logical I feel. Some people like it, some don't, but we do. Thanks for watching and asking!

Thanks Simon, glad you liked it! D2.0 is a lot of fun, and I agree, very expandable. The first expansion is already out, Lair of the Wyrm. You're right on the shelf life comment. That's one of the reasons I started my site, was to provide great info for people looking to invest in something and get the most out of it. If you are only going to get a game to a table 10, maybe 20 times, you want to make sure it's right for you and your playgroup. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hi Duke, thanks for watching. For Line of Sight, we've tried several variants and honestly, none are perfect. There's always some situation where it never feels right. Mostly, we draw a line from the center of the "actor's" box to the center of the "target's" box and if it's clear, they're good. The "edge or corner" to "edge or corner" that the main rules describe work just as well though. Seems nothing is "perfect". Still, it's a GREAT game! One of my favs from last year. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much, that's nice of you to say. I think it have good amount of replay-ability, as long as you switch off who is the heroes and who is the overlord. Most assuredly on out maneuvering. There are Lieutenant Miniatures available. Fantasy Flight are selling them separately for $9.95 each of course. And yes, our game group struggled with the LOS issue and the running around corners through creatures issue. Houserules are going to be definitely implemented here. Apart from that, this is a very good game. The combat mechanic is probably one of the best game mechanics out there today.

Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think 2E is more approachable for new players, and it's faster to set up and play than 1E. I also feel gameplay is much more streamlined, not in a bad way mind you, but you can get through several encounters in an afternoon of play with no issues. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting!

From FFG's website Note: A Copy of Second Edition is Still Required to Play To be clear, the Conversion Kit provides a means to use your first edition hero and monster figures in Second Edition. It does not, however, “upgrade” your other first edition components, nor does it provide the rules, maps, tokens, or other cards necessary to play Second Edition. I thought this would allow 1st Ed guys to play 2nd Ed but with the 1st Ed Edition Scenarios and its existing tokens/maps :(

If the Monster is stunned already, it can't stack stun so it doesn't do anything. If a monster starts it's activation adjacent to Ashrian, then it gains a stun, and must deal with it. When Monsters begin their activation, all models of the monster group are considered to "Begin" their activation, so any of the group activated adjacent to Ashrian would become stunned. In our games, Ashrian is a pit fighter :) Note, this is only for MINION Monsters (white) not MASTER (red) monsters.

If you have never played a dungeon game before, yes, I think it is a great jumping on point. Happy to answer any questions too if you do. Just go into it understanding it will take a game or three under your belt to become comfortable with the rules. That said, this is one of the most fun games on the market for dungeon crawling. You may want to check out Dungeon Run too. Lighter, slightly more random, but very fun too.

First, thanks for watching and commenting. Almost every monster gets one added when you add a hero to the party, be it master or minion. I agree, it'd be nice to add a card too, but, we've played several games with 2 and 5 players and had no issues with scaling on our end.

Are you sure you can't move a figure through the 3 boulders with the red border? As in the example with a monster against a wall, the hero figure could move in between diagonally, which is a similar setup. Also in the "Death on a wing" adventure, if you have boulders dropped diagonally, a hero can move diagonally in between them (Correct me if I'm wrong). OR is it that there's a red borders around the boulders drawn on the map that makes it impassable?

Excellent review! As much as I liked the in-depth look at the pieces and mechanics, I think your opinion towards the end was even more important. I have Descent 1E and an expansion already, and really don't play it that often (time constraints mostly). How do the 2 editions stack up? Is 2E really worth getting into, and is it more enjoyable than 1E? The review makes it seem like some improvements in "fun factor".

I know i'm years late watching this (just bought the game myself), but i find it funny one of your big complaints was no lieutenants in the box and wished they would have minis. Well, it rained cash grab minis for all the lieutenants after this video came out. It was a money scheme, not space in the box.

Great question! I've seen some "simplification" from FFG on recent games that may point to that desire, to make it more "accessible" if you will. At the end of the day, it that's the biggest complaint though, a LOS rule, they've done quite well :) Thanks for watching and commenting!

Draw a straight line from the middle of the square of your miniature to the middle of the square of the intended target. If this line goes through any obstacle you do not have line of sight. Exception: when the line crosses through the exact corner of a tile that blocks LOS move the line slightly left or right purpendicular to the original line. If either line is not blocked in this way you have LOS. ToI rules that work well.

Thanks! There's been some, but unfortunately, I don't own the 1E and don't forsee purchasing the conversion kit in the near future. I would suggest the FFG forums, they usually have a good community there talking about it as well if you are looking for resources. I can ask around in my playgroup though, some had 1E and I can see if maybe I can get a "guest review" out of one of them :)

Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked it! I don't know of one off the top of my head, but I think with the DnD board games, you could use DnD rules to make up a character, although the cards would still be stock to the characters they come with. You do get some flex options on which cards you use when levelling, but that may work. So something like Castel Ravenloft , Wrath of Ashardalon or Legend of Drizzt. Also, have you tried Dungeon Run? I LOVE that game!

My understanding of the rulebook where it uses those red squares is that they are impassable. I believe yes, on Death on a Wing you can diagonally move around boulders, but I'm not sure they are impassable in definition in that scenario. I don't have my rulebook with me, and am out at the moment, but I'll check it out when I can. At the moment, though, my understanding is red is impassable, even diagonally between two red spots.

That's part of why I love doing what I do, my opinion is just that, and while it may line up with some fans, not everyone agrees, so it's discussions around "why" everyone has their opinion that I love. I agree, I don't like the LOS and the "give us more money for lieutenant's" thing, but I have so many minis to use as lieutenants, it doesn't bug me much. Plus we house ruled LOS to a way our group likes more. This has a major amount of value I think, and flexibility for gameplay, hence my Crit.

Hello Tox, I know it's been a while since you've released this video, but I've just discovered your fantastic reviews a month ago... xD And I have a question for this one! I have already the Descent First edition, the altar of despair and tRtL expansions. This second edition to me is a fusion between the first and RTL exp. Thanks

Ususally you can do it by eye most of the times, but in ambigious circumstances you could use a thin strand of wire / rope and cast a shadow line on the board. It solves 99% of the line of sight issues without the need of using a rules or card. So far at best, it has empowered the overlord in our game by an absolute marginal fraction as it allows him to spawn at a few more spaces in some circumstances.

I've played several of the quests multiple times with no lack of fun. Each monster group is placed differently by the Overlord, in the same "Area" each time, but not the same exact squares. Overlord's choice. That said, everyone see's everything on the board, it's not like LOS blocks what's in a room/location. I've thoroughly enjoyed it, even repeating quests. The fact you can be an OverLord or Hero and switch helps too, depending on your playgroup.

So I have the first edition set along with all of the expansions. What I’m wondering is whether it would be worth it to get the second edition? With the conversion kit are the figures the only thing that converts? Will I still be able to use the tiles, tokens, etc.? I’d hate to feel like I was tossing out everything I have when getting 2nd edition. Do you feel like you’re able to use enough 1st edition stuff to make it worth the cost of getting 2nd edition. Thanks!

Interesting. I never got the "Race" feeling other than one side is working to do X while the other is working on Y. In theory, every game is a race though. We are still enjoying it a lot. There is a lot of flexibility though to make your own rules/quests and there is a lot in the community out there from 1E to run scenarios on as well. I don't think it'll pass away anytime soon personally, but I hear your points.

Another houserule for LOS could be that you needed to be able to trace a line to at least TWO corners of the target space.

1) From what I have read on the FFG forums for Descent, if Ashrian is NEXT to a Monster, that monster ONLY loses its FIRST action to the Ashrian's stun - stun is then removed after the first action and the monster can perform it's second action without STUN. 2) Does Ashrian's STUN NOT work on RED monsters?

I'd prefer to play a dungeon game that is begun and finished within one sitting, i'm not too keen on pre-written stories or characters, i'd like to make a new character each time and play a randomly spawned dungeon each time, is there any other dungeon games like that or do all dungeon board-games use pre-written characters and scenarios? Great video by the way, very informative.
