In most other games where the protagonist has pre-defined characteristics, you're playing _their_ story, not yours! In both cases, however, you want to experience a story that's different and unique to your life, not a 1:1 replication of our shitty existence!

Thank you JYD! Yeah that's pretty much every gamer too (escapism/hero archetype etc)... the entire premise of that "girls not represented" thing was just B.S. propaganda imho. Since when does anyone need to "feel represented" in a game they are playing? Besides which, there are a crapton of games out there where you get to customize your character to a great degree, and i would wager that those are exactly how people are supposed to "feel represented" ... so what are they even talking about? What games are so "not represented"?? Don't get me started. More importantly, nobody even mentioned that they specifically used the word "girls"; so does that mean non-adult females only? if so then that's age 17 and under in some places, which is a totally different thing, but could be age 24 and under if you're talking neuro-science... so... wtf? AND not that many females even like, or play games! Certainly not the same sorts of games that guys play anyways! There are so many holes in the implication of that Dove statement... i could rant on and on about it but i'll leave it there.

I feel the same way as you, but I think we may be in the minority. Just from my personal experience, most of my female friends prefer to just put themselves into the world rather than playing as someone else. I've played DnD for over 10 years and I usually prefer to play as either a middle-aged male Dragonkin with a drinking problem or a female druid who is nothing like me in personality or looks. Every girl I've played DnD with has only ever played as themselves. Even when they tried to play as a male character, they always seemed to end up acting exactly like they do in reality

My Shatner story... Back in 2011 me and my crew were doing some electrical work in the live entertainment area of The Hard Rock Cafe in Atlanta. Bill (we're tight that way), after doing a spot at CNN for something he popped into THRC for lunch. The reason Normies liked the mario movie is because Mario is a HERO. They actually made him a good guy who does the right thing and tries to achieve great things while taking care of his brother. Side note: i also seriously appreciated what they did with Peach. She actually gets to be a PRINCESS. She shows up with a plan to form a political alliance against an invading army. She was some independent child who resented her responsibilities, but an actual capable leader.
