Thank you for the reaction! ❤ There are indeed some cymbalstacks that I use sometimes (cymbals combined & stacked together), and there is sometimes also a shaker adding to the richness of the cymbals. So there is a lot going on! :)

The man himself! Great work Adam! You're the best

I absolutely love the cymbal work in your playing, Adam. The intricate subtlety and rythmic complexity is cool af and very creative. Look forward to seeing you guys once again in Nottingham this November!

I love the idea of layering in a shaker alongside the cymbals. I'll have to play around with that in my own music. Is there a good drum playthrough video showing off your kit and the stacks that you use?

@@CriticalReactions I recommend you check out his channel and specifically his covers. There is always added effects, anything from stomping gravel to shakers and dragging sticks across cymbals, all shown in the videos. Adam has been one of those drummers that even before he joined Vola other Scandinavian drummers were talking about a lot because of his creativity, skill and the unusual setup of his kit.

I'm super hype of their new album! is incredible how VOLA is able to sound simple but with a lot a complexity underneath. Asger's vocals has that warmer tone that I really enjoy.

your incredible videos are the only time i think about what i listen to. i was amazed by music once when i was younger and now i take it for granted.

I think the "this sun (and later "this life") is so incomplete always" line is describing our constant striving towards perfection. Nothing is ever finished, complete or good enough as it is, not our lives, and not even the sun. And, presumably, this trait of ours is what ultimately unleashes this "cannibal", whatever it is. This song is going to be the album opener, so more might be revealed later.

Adam Janzi (the drummer) utilizes a lot of stacks on his drumkit, some of the hits you were talking about could be stacks and not the hi-hats. It's kind of hard to tell from this video what exactly he does throughout the track. He does however have a bunch of playthroughs here on KZbin that are worth watching, he has a very unique playing style. He manages to write some incredibly rhythmical complex drum parts while still making them sound "simple"

Stacks...that's a word I need to put in my dictionary. And I'll look up those drum playthroughs. The sound like exactly what I need.

@@CriticalReactions yeah cymbal stacks are a lot of fun! You'll start noticing them a lot in more modern prog-music haha. I can recommend his video on "24 light years" or "I don't know how we got here" for some fun cymbal work!

Brian, you really need to cover We Will Not Disband from this same album. It might be their best song since their debut album.

I want to check out the whole album soon so I'll definitely get to check out We Will Not Disband.

Drummer (and his cymbal work especially) has always been a highlight for VOLA. I always think of 24 Light-Years as one of my favourite melodic drum patterns (at least at the start, until the song turns into pretty standard djent) The guest vocalist - at least his deeper growls - really don't fit the song for me. That might just be me not liking harsher vocals in general though

They chorus ruins the song towards the end because they don't switch it up. It's just too repetitive.
@educostanzo4 ай бұрын
Agree, after the bridge the song runs out of ideas and it's just the chorus repeating over and over, feels a bit unresolved... or too resolved for that matter.
