What I love about their music is just how easy it is to listen to despite the complexity. It's catchy and beautiful and the complexity isn't distracting.

Exactly! It's wizardry as far as I'm concerned.

That’s why I love Oceansize, Mike Vennart has such great delivery of vocals. He does get aggressive every once in a while but it’s at special times. The balance is incredible. These guys playing together was magical.

Heavy - Homage to a shame, Massive Bereavement, Sleeping Dogs and Dead Lions Weightlessness/Spacial sound - Women who love men who love drugs, Long Forgotten, Music For a Nurse, Savant, Pine Time Signature craziness - Getting where water cannot, The Strand, anything from the Frames album really. Oceansize has it all.

My favorite band! You should check Ornament/The last wrongs, it's Mike's (vocals and guitarist) masterpiece according to himself.

Oh man haven't watched yet but they're one of the best progressive rock bands from the 2000's and personally one of my favourites of all time. Their 2nd album is a masterpiece. And so is the album before that and the one that the song you just reacted to comes from. They were also one of Steven Wilson's favourites apparently. Amazing band.

I remember enjoying their last track, but I enjoyed this one even more. Still giving me strong Muse vibes, but this one sounds more original, or at least like an even better version of Muse. Will definitely have to check them out after this. Really love how despite the complexity of this it was so aurally pleasing. So many bands sacrifice atmosphere or melody or hooks for that complexity, but nothing was sacrificed here. This is one of those that's easy to listen to and enjoy casually, but is also undoubtedly one that will reward attention and analysis. Not many bands can pull off that trick.

Must‘ve been the fastest click in KZbin history I just made! Kind of addicted to your channel at this point. Seeing another Oceansize vid from you feels like a present - please don‘t stop, thank you! The album Frames - that this song of from - is just a big pool of awesome tracks with rythms, weightlessness and heaviness all over the place. Every track of it is worth to be checked out, but especially worth to be listened to as a whole. You started with their first album, now their third. I‘d say it‘s time for a track of their second album. Try a homage to a shame for more heaviness spiced up with funk or music for a nurse for an emotional, spherical beauty or Ornaments/ The last wrongs (maybe even the live version?) for an example of how good they are at closing their albums.

Talk about an underrated album! So stoked you did this one, Frames is one of the most complete and mesmerizing listens that math rock has to offer, in my opinion.

In my opinion, this song has the most beautiful chord progression. It’s just awe inspiring. I’m so glad that you reacted to this one and great analysis as usual! Hope you check out more from this band down the road. I would request some of their heavier stuff such as Massive Bereavement or A Homage to a Shame.

I once heard Mark Heron getting confused trying to explain the rhythm of Massive Bereavement to another drummer - and he came up with it so would love to see a reaction to that! I think these weird beats just come naturally to him.

Just to wrap this fantastic special selections week up, here's Oceansize doing a cover of their heroes Cardiacs' song Eat It Up Worms Hero as special (surprise?) guests at the middle of a Cardiacs show (57 min in) kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIOVcmqCj6qEipY (Not the best quality but a unique moment captured and shared 😍)

You’re analyses are some of the best for real. It’s you and Key of Geebz carrying the entire show. I would love to see you react to Holy Mountains by system of a down. That song totally fucks me up. One of my favorite intros ever. You did like 4 of their songs a long time ago and seeing more would be awesome. Marmalade, Question, Deer Dance, and Streamline would also be cool to see, especially the former two. BYOB would be cool, but reactions are worse when one’s heard a song and everyone’s heard that one. I would assume you as well.

Thanks for the kind words. As for SOAD, after listening to that handful of songs early on I went out and bought all 5 of their albums. Really great stuff. I wouldn't mind taking a critical look at Holy Mountain one day though.

@@CriticalReactions if that’s the case, Marmalade is an excellent choice. very difficult song to find since it’s only on the japanese version of one of their albums i think you probably wouldn’t have heard it (it’s on youtube though). I only listened to it for the first time this year and was shocked to suddenly find a “new” song by them, let alone one i really enjoyed. the question though is whether a good song makes a good analysis video. holy mountains certainly has more going on

You're right, I don't think I have heard that one. It's wild to think a band that hasn't put music out in long while (excluding those two recent singles) could still have music out there that fans wouldn't know about.
@barnabyssjones
@barnabyssjones 2 жыл бұрын
@@CriticalReactions Yeah they have an entree fan-made album called Storaged Melodies that has all theirs stuff that didn’t make their other albums. Don’t know that’s worth exploring cuz Marmalade and their cover of Metro are really the only good ones tbh
