CRKT Hissatsu Fixed Blade 2907
James Williams, the designer of the Hissatsu™, is a former Army officer and martial arts practitioner/instructor with over 45 years of experience. He knows cutlery as President of Bugei Trading Company, producer of fine Samurai swords. As one who has trained tactical law enforcement and military forces for the SureFire Institute, he has developed a unique and powerful approach to unarmed combatives. His system of defensive tactics, known as The System of Tactical Strategy, has its origins in the ancient Samurai military systems as well as the Russian military art of Systema.

My Hissatsu fixed blade is my favorite among all the knives I own. I also have the folder and the Otanashi Noh Ken which I bought because of my Hissatsu fixed blade.

Why would anyone bitch about the steel on this knife? If your taking this blade out into the woods or performing camp tasks with it then you are not using this knife for it's intended purpose, not that most of us would, but this is a purely combat knife, a last ditch or secondary weapon system, that is what James Williams designed it for to begin with. I keep my Hissatsu attached to my leg holster and sometimes attach it to my chest rig, that's it, i have never cut a thing with it because that was not what it was intended for, so set aside and saved for its real purpose that hopefully none of us ever have to experience, the steel is more than adequate for that role.

+korydreagan I agree.... It's certainly not a bushcarft knife. I'd like to know what you think about any risk of your hand running up onto the blade if you were to use it for thrusting? It looks like that could be a distinct possibility but I'd be interested in your experience of it.

There is always the possibility of a hand slide happening, although the handle is very grippy and contoured slightly enough that your hand really locks in well. I love the blade. I have the fixed and folder, as well as the Yukanto. Also, most don't mention it but this is a very thick blade, I mean thick enough to be used as a non lethal option, it will not break.

+korydreagan Thanks. It's a great looking knife, along with the others in it's family, especially the sakimori. For me the lack of a guard makes me hesitant to purchase.

I totally understand that. If you haven't seen it, James Williams has a video that actually comes up to watch above the comments on my account, it's 2:25 seconds long, called Hissastu Penetration Points. You should watch it. He's demonstrating the piercing power of the folding version, which is basically a less grippy version of the fixed blade against other name brand production knives, it's impressive to say the least. It will give you an idea to the knives capabilities, might actually change your mind. I'm not a CRKT fan boy, there are better knives, but for a secondary defensive option, it's hard to beat in design, function and price point. Good luck to you and hope that helps some.

440 A sounds like it might be like a deal breaker, but if you think about it. The knife isn't a beater or survival knife so I saw its competitive with coldsteel and SOG

damn old Columbia river son! the James Williams stuff is the best thing crkt ever done. those and the m16 series are the only things crkt has going for them. one reason, they are dead set on using cheaper steel than their competitors. 440a? hate to be a steel snob but cmon... they even be using aus4 and aus6. it'll work im sure, but why settle for walmart steel at this price point? id rather spend 2oo on the old model.

very cool blade - im still deciding if im gonna strip the black coating off - the polished version is to shiny - maybe just the grey steel is best

Still one of my favorite designs. I do like the comparison to a steak knife, since that is pretty much its intended purpose, lol. Although most of the old steak knife designs aren't used in any public eating places anymore, for pretty obvious reasons.

Actually 440a steel works fine considering this is purely a stabbing weapon and nothing more

Just an FYI, Paul Howe carries this knife as his tertiary weapon right up on his chest rig. If you dont know who he is look him up should give some legitimacy to the knife and its combat applicability, aslo James Williams the designer has been making knives for and training SF for years.

Debating getting this, the blade retention in the sheath looks to be really loose for my carry preference. I've been debating buying a heat gun to tighten up some of my hard plastic sheaths.

Why do you always say "Hey Bladeops!" when we are not Bladeops? Do you mean "Hey, THIS IS Bladeops!"? Are you introducing yourself or saying hi to us? Make up your mind man, I've been subbed for well over a year and I always wondered about this

I have this knife! But the Ka-Bar has it beat because kydex sheath on the Ka-Bar is superior.. Also the Hissatsu is strictly a blade made for killing. Primarily just using the tip. Great for stabbing but what if you wanted to open a can of food or pry at a door.. Ka-Bar!

$80 for 440A? I would rather have a cold steel kobun because its half the price and you get AUS-8

I'd rather have 440 than AUS8 for self defence. AUS8 rusts easily. I ruined a nice Spartan in 2 weeks, just from sweat, running with it in my pocket. I will either get 440 for self defense or VG10 for premium utility blade.

I believe Hissatsu means "fail" in Japanese. Crappy steel, made in China, looks like a large steak knife.
