The name is pronounced Heeshow. In Japanese i is a long e sound. It looks like you are having fun modifying the knife to fit your personal needs. Stay safe, James

This is without a doubt the best looking modified hisshou I've ever seen. It looks better than they usually look when you first get them. Awesome job

Saw this at a pawnshop for $150, but it had no sheath. Some poor bloke, had sold their Hisshou at a pawnshop. I feel _bad_ for that guy.

Way to fkup a nice knife (and by the way the sheath sucks as far as retention goes it's not truly molded to the blade crappy construction when you look at it next to the quality of the knife itself) it's prone to slipping out of the sheath very easily.

This set of knives will be classics one day and people will be selling them for ridiculous prices like that sog dessert dagger. And sog sucks

not far off on the pronunciation, and funny enough these things are super coveted among japanese sword collectors like myself. i still haven't been able to find one since they discontinued it. wish i'd bought one when they came out. if anyone knows where to find one for a fair price let me know!

It's a combat weapon, not a survival knife. That said, I have little doubt the Hisshou could perform some non-combat cutting with ease. But, please never suggest a fighting knife is a survival knife. It's not designed to be one, and that could become a problem. I also like the Shinbu, which is slightly shorter, and handier. By the way, it breaks my heart that you bought a traditional tanto style knife, and just butchered the handle. You could have done a tighter cord wrap, if it was too wide for you. But, really, in a SHTF scenario, you want this knife to be a killing tool, not a work tool. Carry another knife for shelter-building or bushcraft. There's certainly enough space on the sheath to piggyback a Becker BK-7 or something of that size.

Cool! I own a Hanwei tactical wakizashi which survived a "full force" direct impact in the edge with a heavy steel tube with almost no damage. However I am not very confident about its durability in combat because the blade is very thin (less than 4 mm thick). I am thinking about buying a hisshou, assuming that if it costs more it would be of better quality. Do you think that its blade would survive a test like that?
@mrknifefighter12 жыл бұрын
Im shocked any blade could handle that at all, thats a pretty abusive test. But I would deffinitely recommend this blade over the wakisashi any day. Have a good one and thanks for the comment!

It's kind of a shame you had to modify the grip for yourself. The grip on this blade right out of the box is fantastic. Good mods, though.

I bought one of these and it rusted in under 2 weeks without EVER using it. I removed it from the plastic, wiped off the excess "shipping" oil. I asked the reseller to remedy this since it was only placed on a shelf for display. No cutting gallons of water, no cutting anything, just displayed in a shelf. Still awaiting re-seller's decision on "what to do?"

Hey I liked what you did with the handle. I just got mine and dont care for the wrap either. What did you use and how did you put it on. Also, did you remove the rayskin underneath? If so is it just a full tang? thanks
