How come you can tighten your pivot all the way down and it isn’t stiff. When I tighten mine it doesn’t open anymore When I loosen it, it becomes off centered.

Could be just manufacturing tolerances.

Did you notice a big improvement in the action?

To be honest, not at all. More of a "feel good" replacement, than something necessary.

Never knew hot water can loosen up the threadlock. I have some trouble unscrewing my pivot screw. Idk if it's red or lots of blue threadlock. Will it still work for red one in hot water?
@CoyoteEDC2 жыл бұрын
I don't think I have ever seen red in a knife. It may not get hot enough for that.
@DeRock4014 жыл бұрын
Everytime I try to remove the screws on the Pilar both sides turn. I tried the hot water method didn’t work. Sucks cuz I just got some flytanium scales for it and now I can’t get the scales off.
@CoyoteEDC4 жыл бұрын
Thats a hard case. Is your show side of the knife a plain pivot? I know mine is, that makes it hard to grasp on anything without causing permanent damage to the pivot. Sorry man!
@franzong4 жыл бұрын
Which screws? The pivot or the body screws? If it's the body screws, just use another torx head on the other side to hold it in place so you can loosen the other side
@DeRock4014 жыл бұрын
@@franzong body screws and that didn't work. I've ordered 2 more pilars and same thing they won't come out. Both sides just spin. I gave up.
@night57384 жыл бұрын
@@DeRock401 they’re free spinning screws, so both sides needs to be locked in place, so put the screw driver on one side that you want to take off and a torx wrench on the other side to stop the screw from freely spinning like that and it’ll just break free
@DeRock4014 жыл бұрын
@@night5738 I’ve tried this. I bought 3 more pilars and they all have the same problem. Shitty crkt Chinese products

From my experience, I never liked Tuff Glide lubrication. It always got gritty after a couple of open and closes even after cleaning the knife. KPL or Daiwa reel oil. Those really improve the action. Give them a shot if you are interested. You wont regret it!
@CoyoteEDC4 жыл бұрын
I use KPL or tuff glide, usually whichever is closest when I am re-assembling a knife. Really depends also, Tuff Glide is thinner but runs a bit more when first applied. Thanks for watching.

My Pilar (Micarta/D2 - thumb hole) has bronze washers and even after taking it apart, cleaning and polishing the washers/internals, and living it up, it's still a pretty crummy action. 🥱

I definitely stripped a screw trying to get that pivot out. Any suggestions on how to get a stripped screw out of the handle? I’ve tried a few different methods with no luck.
@CoyoteEDC4 жыл бұрын
Was it the pivot screw? If you are able to get it back in, it may be just wiser to leave it alone and still have a functional knife. I doubt CRKT sells spares for these, and finding a match may require you buy a new, cheaper model pilar to swap out with.
@sarahvanmattson48064 жыл бұрын
@@CoyoteEDC Gtocha, thanks for getting back on that!
@chefboiarby3043 жыл бұрын
You might be able to dremel in a slot to make it an improvised flathead, but it only works if the screw head has enough material and sticks out enough from the scales to avoid scratching the scales.
@joshuajacob64022 жыл бұрын
I stripped out a screw on this knife and if you go on CRKT's website they send you parts you need at no cost.

How hot do you need to get the water to help loosen threadlocker? Just dunk the thing in boiling water?
@CoyoteEDC4 жыл бұрын
I usually microwave a mug of water for three minutes, then dip the knife in and swirl it around until the heat makes the knife too hot to handle. That usually does it.
@neszero3 жыл бұрын
Man, how do you flick the Pilar open like that?? Maybe I’m a noob, but I can’t find a hand position that makes it viable Edit: I was putting pressure on the blade lock section. Repositioned that finger and got it to flick smooth!
@CoyoteEDC3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was about to say, try resting your back fingers on the pocket clip instead of the lock bar. That way there is no pressure holding the blade in.

Just bought a Pilar on sale on Amazon and I can’t get any of the screws off. Sent it back but bought a Squid in the mean time and still can’t get any screws off. It’s insane. I know these are cheap knifes but wtf 😂. Never had and issue with any of my knives but these cheap ass $25 ones I can’t get to clean smh😂😂

Had that issue with a Squid. Loctited pivot, and it was a spinning pivot. So never will be able to take it apart to swap scales.

@@CoyoteEDC so my squid pivot is loose lol. I scrolled your comments and saw the water trick and that did not work. I have some weha bits coming in the mail tomorrow but now I’m just bummed this my hardest knife to open. I’ll probably send them both back. By any chance can you recommend me something this small maybe not as cheap but something fidget friendly? I actually thought the pilar would be more fidget friendly and even after the videos that I saw online it didn’t really seem like it was super fidget friendly .
