Excellent spelling out of the plus and minuses of the CRKT. You are spot on about adding a bit of a swell to the handle scales to give it a little more girth at the butt of the knife plus some nice stainless liners would really bump it up some. I was really excited about the knife when I first discovered it but am holding off buying one until I find one at a little lower price. Thanks!

Thank you for an honest review. I thought I made want one but now I will definitely reconsider that purchase. I like that some companies known for modern knives are making some slip joint knives available. If they did have a swell and maybe changed up the color of the G10, they can give it a more natural wood look. A thin and unchamfered handle is hell on the hard cuts. A decent trapper type, but at that price I’d rather get a sodbuster

I like to see what those wacky kids at CRKT are up to. It’s a nice take on a trad design, with that shield and bolster. But not appealing to me. Druther have bone, horn or wood handles. Thanks for the look at it!

Yes I prefer natural materials as well, but micarta has been around long enough to call it traditional too if we are being fair.

Interesting take on a Trapper. I could do without the fake bolster. Reminds me of a Brother Knife. I wonder if it is out of the same factory. Maybe this is what Rough Ryder Reserve should be doing if they want to go “modern traditional.” I think you’re right about getting a swell in the grip.

@@ThriftyKaniffy I think you'll probably see more focus after the first 16, if it continues. Hopefully they will listen to the comments from several folks. definitely not a brother knife, fit'n'finish is not eveb close. also: brother usually doesn't use 8cr13 as far as i know, they use vg-10 on most of their knives. for me this looks like it came from the same factory like all other cheaper crkts.

I like the way it looks. That jumbo trapper profile looks good. I would bet they kept it thin to make it a pocket knife, with out clip, comfortable. I always liked a little bigger knife in my youth like a Buck 110. They always rode just fine in a belt sheath. I think a bigger knife needs to make a lot of compromises to ride comfortable in a pants pocket. I liked the knife when I saw it on Jersey's channel but still have not bought one. Maybe this summer if we see some sale activity on it.

I like these kinds of light, compact knives for hiking, you're cutting cord or making a branch into a tent peg, nothing major. I would stick to Real Steel knives for this, you get D2 or better and a lanyard hole to put brightly coloured cord in so it's harder to loose. That's not to say I wouldn't buy this knife anyway, do like the design.
