In your experience for CRNA school applications in regards to experience for ICU, do all encompassing ICU floors typically count for experience? For example, a CCU/PCU floor where you have a combination of ICU, step down, and medsurge status patients all within the same floor and the same nurses staffing it? Do you think this would count or not as it’s all thrown together?

Hey Jesse! Great question; the *best* way to know for sure is to reach out to the program directly, since they all tend to differ a bit on these types of requirements! I have a video on How To Reach Out To Your Future Programs for some tips on going about this...check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH7caplmfLCtbJY Also keep in mind that it's the acuity that typically matters most ;) Cheers to your future!

Hey Jesse, Jenny here 👋🏻 (previous reply was from my Teammate Deanna) I do worry that a ICU that combines with a step down probably won’t be high enough acuity. Schools will definitely not like to see your time split between a step down and a ICU. I do agree you should reach out to your future programs but my suspicion is that they would tell you to find a ICU that you only take high acuity ICU pts versus any step down. As far as counting this experience- this is tricky and only your school would be able to give you this answer- some May while others may not - I would think most would but they would consider it a low acuity experience and therefore not as competitive- let me know what you find out 🙂

I hate that I’m finally realizing that this is what I want to do. Wasted 3 years of my life in MedSurg and now I’m getting ready to switch from traveling to being a full time ICU nurse 🥲. I guess I’ll use to this time to retake/take some of my science classes. This will be hard, but I’m praying strongly it will all be beneficial in the end🙏🏽.

Please don't look at your MedSurg time as time wasted! There's a LOT of valuable lessons to learn there that will help you on your journey to CRNA... and it is not too late for you! Lots of people do CRNA as a second-in-life career so trust yourself and your journey! Rooting for you!!

I work in the OR as a surgical tech. I know CRNA's do other things on the floor, still recommend shadowing?
@CRNASchoolPrepAcademy2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcie! If you plan to pursue CRNA, then shadowing is certainly recommended! Many CRNA schools require it for admission; if you're not 100% sure CRNA is for you, it's the best way to determine that, too! Check this out for more information: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGPIYoShl7dqf9k Rooting for you!

@@CRNASchoolPrepAcademy this is a relief to know. It is a lot of work for me to study so I always question whether I cam make it to a higher level of education or not, thinking that everyone else breezed through school. I guess the reality is that many of us struggle, just need to find a way.

Quick question: What schools out there take nurses with less than or equal to 1 year of ICU experience? Just curious because all places I’ve seen say minimum 2 years. Any info would be helpful, thank you!!

When can one apply to be a nurse aid in ICU? After completing RN?
@CRNASchoolPrepAcademy2 жыл бұрын
Once you complete RN, you'll be an RN, so you wouldn't want to apply as an aid. Typically you can apply after you complete your first semester or two of nursing school, or take the CNA class and you can practice in hospitals after getting your certificate. It's best that you contact your nursing program or the hospital you're hoping to work in to confirm all that!

This is very helpful, as I am new in this health care world. I am taking my nursing prerequisites now, so it is good to know some steps to get to ICU since I think must be hard. Thank you! Your videos and information that you share are helpful and very relevant. Thanks for bringing people up and motivating us to study and work hard ❤️
