Croatia on Tuesday opened a long-awaited bridge connecting two parts of the country's Adriatic Sea coastline while bypassing a small sliver of Bosnia's territory.
The 2.4km (1.5-mile) cable-stayed Peljesac bridge with total cost of 525 million Euros was built by China and largely funded by the European Union.
The bridge's span reaches out from the Croatian mainland to the Peljesac Peninsula, that connects with Croatia's southern Adriatic coast the popular tourist destination of Dubrovnik bypassing a narrow strip of Bosnian territory.
Construction of the Peljesac Bridge started in July 2018 and was completed on time, despite the pandemic.

We need those funds to help our low income families. It is a sad situation for us, and an evil act towards the world. And yes, since, I don’t agree on the vision in our government, my family will be moving away and relocating.

I am glad Chinese premier Li KeQiang said ""Chinese companies won the project through a public tender in a fair competition in accordance with market principles and.." that for all audiences during the bridge opening ceremony televised region/continentwide. Although It sounds like pro pa gen da, but he still has to say it out to burst the myths and rumors from jealous and unfriendly people saying bad things about China using bribery, unfair and state-sponsored bidding to gain political influences. Chinese companies bidded on this project with the goal to expand their businesses and sell their bridge building tech, not for gaining political influences.

@wwss22qq qq22ssww Don't judge a book by its cover. The negative image of communisim in Europe is created by those haters. Communism is not bad and even better than those capitalism that wants to control the poor and everyone under the name of "human rights" and "democracy". Those capitalists are not democractic and have no human rights. Otherwise, the rich-poor gap would not be so large in western world.

@@TheTraveler2222 nope it's clearly stated that that main engineers were Croatians and everything that was made had to go through them and the main architect of the bridge Marjan Pipenbaher a fellow neighbor Slovene. The EU mainly paid for the material and construction force that the Chinese firm had to offer. A really successful collaboration.

Frankly to me, i don't give a frak who build the bridge, to me its important that bridge is built and in service. When you experience once the traffic jams at Croatian-Bosnian border in the middle of summer (twice, since you need to cross border on two locations) on a heat then you understand how important is to have some new connection that will prevent that. To Croats its important because we waited for very long time to connected our territory. Now this bridge also reduce travel and more importantly no more jams. So, European money, Slovenian designed bridge, built by Chinese workers, i do not care whos money, who designed it and who built it, all that matter is that its built, finally.
