Hi Sanda . I want to thank you from deep in my heart for showing this video about old houses. I am not a member of your family but when you showed us your grandfather's house ; where he was born , and you PUSHED the door open....I almost got tears in my eyes. I am a natural historian and I love the past. All the things that hapenned before , contributed to form us the way we are today. I treasure very much old houses. The house might be falling apart but the beautiful memories about the people that called that building their home , those memories will forever be ' in the air ' there. If only the house could talk....I am sure you would be super happy to hear..... Thank you Sanda. Your friend ...Edwin Oliveras

Videos like this always give me goosebumps. I was born in Rijeka but migrated to Australia age 4 with my parents. I have since been back only twice but hope to go again soon . Even though my home is Australia now, I feel such a strong connection with my country of birth, especially as I grow older. I can't wait to step back onto Croatian soil! There are so many beautiful places I want to visit. I especially want to go back to the villages my parents and grandparents grew up in; to see their homes (hopefully still standing). I know it will be an incredibly emotional experience for me. God willing I will be back 🙏.

Beautiful old houses, they are certainly worth saving and renovating, they should not be left to crumble into ruin!! 😟🤥 really i would like to have one i would try my best to make it nice again and someone could live in it, maybe even myself - i do wonder on a price for an old abandoned small house like these. Thanks for showing us these buildings, i love how they have stairs outside leading up to a balcony where people used to live, i expect it is beautiful to sit outside in the summer, on the balcony.

Hi Sanda, thanks for showing your grandparents' old houses. My great-grandparents came to Chile from Mimice in Omiš and Kučiće. I imagine that the small villages of Dalmatia also have this type of construction with stone houses.

Exploring abandoned stone ruins and buildings is one of my favourite things to do in Croatia. Our house is stone with original oak beams and so on. Full of character! Only about 80 km from Rijeka. I adored this video...what a wonderful topic! You cannot fathom how meaningful this is to subscribers like me. Thank you. 😊

Hi! I adore reading your comments. Thank you for always commenting when I upload a new video. I am very sentimental in that regard, I also love exploring all those old houses and all the history we have in this area. Croatia has been through so much in as little as the last 100 years, and you can definitely see it and feel it in the architecture and the landscape. Your Croatian house sounds wonderful!

I'm glad you enjoyed the video!! It was common for the people to leave the islands. It was a hard life due to periods of drought. People lived from making olive oil and wine. If that didn't work out, they were hungry. But there was not much else, other than stones.... Most people I work with had their ancestors from the island of Brač.

This is an incredible video! I must share this with family! They will love it! My Croatian ancestors grew cherries. Not sure if cherries are still common here. This made my day!
@CroatianExperiencewithSanda2 жыл бұрын
I LOVE cherries. My grandparents used to take me cherry picking in the summer. Everyone here had some fruit trees, cherries, plums, figs, and an almond or a walnut, apple trees... if you didn't have a fruit tree, you simply didn't have fruit at those times.... I miss that tradition of planting edible fruit trees everywhere. It makes so much sense. But people nowadays don't want the bees (which are extremely important for food in general), don't want the ants, and the bugs, and the birds that come along with the fruit trees, and the fruits that fall onto the ground...

Beautiful the stone houses your problem will be when you are hiring builders as Croatian builders are mostly useless expensive and very unreliable, they can build quality either and lots and of stories about them stealing and over charging. Best advice is not to employ or work with any Croatian they are totally useless, I built many properties but never use them as they have no tools and don't build straight ever, great country just don't trust ever a Croatian or Bosnian builders you have been warned. You have zero protection when the leave when they have been paid, so many had stories of thieves but the government is the same. Bandic INA Sanader read all about them, it's in the blood to steal. Do not trust ever
