I am a beginner. You explain everything so well! However I used same crochet hook and medium 4 yarn but I don’t understand how to gauge size? Can you help me? The headband I made turned out beautifully, but too small. Did size for small baby. TIA
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Жыл бұрын
Gauge is simply measuring the number of stitches per inch. If I have 4 stitches per inch and you have 5 stitches per inch then the sizes will be different. The most stitches per inch the smaller the item will be. If yours came out too small then I would go up a hook size.

@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 ай бұрын
Yes. You can add as many chains as you need to the pattern just know that you are adding those chains to the side of the headband that does not have the hole in it. So once you create the hole for the other end to go through, you should not have increased on the bow side of that hole. I hope that makes sense.

I loved the simplicity of the headband for little girls. Do you have a pattern for older or women?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 2 жыл бұрын
I only have it up to toddlers, but if you don't mind the size of the bow, you can add as many chains as you need then just follow the video or written pattern and it should still come out. I wrote it that way so I didn't have to add any confusing sizing instructions. You will see the pattern says Yarn Over Slip Stitch "across". That allows for the different starting chain amounts.

If you find that the bow is curling you could block it. If you assemble it and then the bow is curling, you can still block it then to get the bow to lay flat.

Should I chain according to the head circumference of baby?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 9 ай бұрын
You want to make the size that matches the head circumference of the baby. This head band is worked as all one piece so when you chain, part of that chain is the bow and will not be part of the headband circumference.

If you are adding more rows then you will need to add the same amount of rows before and after the row that adds the hole to make the bow, but to make the headband bigger you will need to add more chains and not rows.

What is the difference between this stitch and a half double crochet?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Ай бұрын
With a half double crochet you will pull up a loop from the next stitch then yarn over and pull the first loop through the last three loops on the hook. With the yarn over slip stitch you do not do the last yarn over. You pull a loop up from the next stitch then pull that same loop through the last two loops on the hook. So the difference is that last yarn over.

@@WindingRoadCrochet explain the gauge part to me. Thank you
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 2 жыл бұрын
Your gauge is the number of stitches per a certain number of inches. Everyone crochets differently. We can all use the same yarn and same size hook, but some people crochet loosely and some crochet very tight. So when people work 87 stitches the end measurement will all be different. Sometimes it will be a drastic difference and sometimes it will be a small difference. We use a gauge to help make sure the size comes out correctly. The gauge for this pattern is 8 YOSLST X 8 Rows = 2 inches. So if you measure out 8 stitches, it should equal 2 inches. If it equals more than 2 inches, then you will need to use a smaller hook. Here is a video from a friend of mine that explains gauge very well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3aQqWhsq5psjNE

@WindingRoadCrochet Жыл бұрын
Make sure to check your gauge and remember that this is worked as all one piece, so some of that length is used for the bow. I would say about 4 inches of the length gets used for the bow. The gauge is 4 stitches per inch. 96 sts = 24 inches - (4-5 inches for the bow) = about 19-20 inches circumference for the headband. If that still seems big then you can go down a size to get a headband that is 17-18 inches.
