This is off topic, but - if someone doesn't like a video, they should be required to say why, IMO. Doesn't have to be nasty or snarky, just explain what's wrong??? I thought this video was spot on and got a great deal of help from it!

LOL. Yes, polite constructive criticism is helpful. A thumbs down tells me nothing. I ignote the thumbs down because I don't need that negativity in my happy crochet place.

My mom left an unfinished blanket when she died. I’ve been trying to figure out the stitch she was doing for 20yrs! (She was left-handed, which made it challenging to figure out) I think this is it! It was the chevron pattern and the stitch had peaks and valleys, making a very thick full blanket. Thanks! I can’t wait to try a camel stitch chevron, turning with each row. 🤞🙏 🧶

Very professional! Very professional indeed. Necessary points were repeated just often enough to anchor them in my memory. The video skipped forward through stretches where we would just be watching the same stitch over and over and over again. Her voice is pleasant, her enunciation clear, and the video always stays in focus. There's no "influencer I-want-to-be-your-BFF" silliness. Wow. I have struggled with borders for a couple of years--and now by golly I see how to do it! The corners are especially pretty. (Note to other newbies: don't miss her video on how to do that very first sc round before you start the border proper. It's fabulous too.)

Thanks so much for this post! I made a granny square throw for my daughter, but wanted something a bit more "oomphy" for the border. This did the trick! I like your videos. Because you explain how to do the stitch as you go. In a very clear and simple process. Without jumping around or going off the subject. I'm not trying to be rude to other people. But there have been projects I wanted to do. But the individual would jump around about other things not related to the pattern . So, I would have to keep rewinding the video. A few times, I just gave up. ☹️

This looks lovely and easy but I'm confused on the "third loop". Do you mean the back loop?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 29 күн бұрын
No. The third loop is located on the back of the stitch. It is a horizontal strand of yarn underneath the back loop. The front and backloop get turned forward to create the knit look. After a while those loops turn forward natural and it starts to look like you are working in the back loop only but that is only because of the rotation of the stitch and the backloop starts sitting where the front loop normally is.

Hi! Thank you for this. I think I just found my border! I am not very sure if I fully understood. I think on row 2 you said to go into the middle yarn of the top three. But on the 3rd row you say to go into the back one? Which is it? How does this border look in the back? Thanks!
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 4 жыл бұрын
The border is smooth on the backside. I don't completely understand the question. In this pattern we are working into the third loop for row 2 and beyond for every stitch. The third loop is also called the back middle bar. It can be found on the bask side of the stitch half way down the stitch. The only time we do not work into the third loop is when we work the corners.

I am making the bobble baby blanket; I am not clear on how to use this border with that pattern. When you are on the top or bottom of the blanket there are 120 stitches, so do I DC in each stitch; that seems wrong as I would have more on the top/bottom sides?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet Жыл бұрын
The sides and top/bottom do not need to match in stitch count, but the top and bottom should. I am not familiar with the pattern. Is there a different number of starting stitches from the first and last row?

I know I can swatch this but I certainly wish your video had shown the back of this border. With limited yarn remaining I need a border that can easily get ripped back if I run out and cannot finish. A ribbed border is the look I want but that is an all or none border whereas this is cummulative.

You don't mention how you got the starting chain two spaces in the corners, is there a step missing? If you have just finished a straight forward blanket with rows of any stitch, is there something you need to do first that's not in the video?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 9 ай бұрын
Yes. At the beginning of the video I mention that first you need to work a single crochet border around the blanket. I have this explained in another video because how you do that will depend on what stitch center of your blanket is work in. So there is a video dedicated to how to add a single crochet border to any blanket.

Yes. Start with the single crochet border first then work this border after.

Hi, I love the border pattern but I am just a beginner so I have a bit of problem! In the 2nd row of the border, you are referring to the 3rd stitch on the behind, I cannot clearly see or understand that bit. Can you help?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I am referring to the third loop. It is on the back of the stitch. Here is another video that will explain this better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6mwoo2vf62fhaM

How do I not end up with three stitches in each start/end corner on rows 2-7? There are two HDC and a ch2 coming from that previous row’s ch2 sp.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 4 жыл бұрын
I do not count the turning chain as a stitch. So it is just the first HDC in the corner and the last HDC is worked into the corner and joined with the corner chain. The turning chain does not count as a stitch and should not have a stitch worked into the top of it when starting a new row.

Winding Road Crochet Ok, then what do you do with the extra non-stitch in the corner? There are three “groupings” of yarn coming from the corner and it doesn’t align with the other corners. It’s not working for me. At all. It looks horrible, won’t lay flat, and does give three stitches emanating from the corner chain space.

I'm confused, is the hdc and the camel stitch the same thing?
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. The camel stitch uses the HDC but works it in the third loop or the back middle bar. So it isn't your normal HDC.

I believe you can double crochet in the third loop but I think the third loop is a little harder to see on a double crochet.

You could use it down the sides but you would have to work increases and decreases to keep the chevron part going.

Timestamp is 2:44 for the first corner of round 2. For the first corner you will CH2, then Half double crochet into the corner space, so we are actully working backwards for the first stitch. Note: we are not turning the work to work backwards just placing the Half double crochet into the CH2 corner that is behind it. For all other corner of the 2nd round we are working them the same as round 1. So (Half Double crochet, CH2, Half Double Crochet) all into the CH2 corner space. Timestamp 4:22 for 2nd corner on the 2nd round.

I really can’t say. I would think it would be the same, you are just using the other hand and working in the other direction. I know there are plug ins that can flip the video so you can see what it looks like left handed.

I know I am a novice, but I was all in until the 2nd row. Do I crochet every 3rd back space? From the video, it looks like you are crocheting every loop. You refer to it as a bar. Is it the back loop you refer to as a bar? I may just stick to a simple border, this is too confusing. I have re-watched this part at least 50 times and I still don't get it. I give up.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 6 ай бұрын
You are working into the third loop only. I am also referring to this as the middle back bar. The third loop is not the same as the front loop only or the back loop only. This loop is located on the backside of the stitch in the middle of the stitch. I have a video that is just on this stitch. Maybe that will help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6mwoo2vf62fhaM

Some tutorials call it the back bump on a stitch. You have the 2 that create a V and then there's the bump on the back when you turn it over. Hope this helps. I'm new too and have watched TONS of tutorials.

I can see that. Did you have a hard time seeing the third loop or was it something else? I would imagine it would not be fun to do with velvet yarn either.

@ it was in fact the third loop that was my downfall 😂 could’ve also just been that it was variegated on top of being a thick blanket yarn so it was a little hard to find the stitches normally not just when trying to find the third loop 😂

I was fine till you did this 3rd loop thing. I cannot see or understand what you mean. It is entirely me not you. I just cannot for the life of me understand what you mean. You started off saying work into the 3rd loop (do you mean every 3rd stitch?) Or is there supposed to be a loop at the back of the row of crochet stitches? Is it at the back of every stich? Or is it every 3rd stitch? I cannot see on my work what to do. I understood you fine up to this point.
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 3 ай бұрын
It is not the third stitch. On each stitch you have the front and back loop located at the top of the stitch, normally we work under both of these loops when we do a normal stitch. You will find patterns that have you work under the back loop only and under the front loop only. Locate the front and back loop, then rotate your work toward you and on the back of the stitch, under the back loop is what they refer to as the third loop. It can also be called the back middle bar. We are inserting our hook under that and then yarning over and pulling up a loop. Extra note - When we workin rounds like this , then the third loop is on the back of our work, but when turning our work at the end of the row, the third loop is on the front of our work.
@judybrown8143

It’s called back loop only, just letting you know. You description was a little confusing for me as it is called back loop only not the 3rd yarn.8:)
@WindingRoadCrochet
@WindingRoadCrochet 2 жыл бұрын
No. The end result will look wrong if you just work into the back loop only. Working into the third loop (the loop on the back of the stitch that is about half way down the stitch) causes the front and back loop of the stitch to turn forward. The 'V' that is created by the front and back loop is then visible on the front of your work and gives you that knit look.
