Crochet Cast On

Crochet cast on provides a loose, non-binding edge perfect for scarves, blankets and more. When worked with waste yarn, it becomes a provisional cast on.

This is slick. I am both a knitter and crocheter so this was easy to master. I use this cast on for most of my knitting as it does lend itself to really nice seam joining, but I never thought about using it as a provisional cast on. Thanks! Nice video.

I learned to do this much differently. >.< I learned to chain the number of stitches I need and then individually pick up the back loop with my knitting needle. This is waaaaaaay easier.

I cast on with crochet cast on 648 stitches. When I reread the pattern it said to use the cable cast on. Is there much difference? I'm making the Barb's Koigu Ruffle scarf. Please tell me I don't have to rip out. Thanks.

Does it make a difference what size crochet hook is used?

Leslie Swabb yes, you want to use a hook that is the same size as the needle. Using a smaller hook like this will make a tight cast on.

Use a hook in a similar size as the knitting needle. Both needles and hooks list the mm size.

You don't. You begin to knit them. It's just for a "cast on".
