Thank you for this step by step tutorial. Because of this, I was able to make around 250 pcs which I gave for free to the (mostly) medical frontliners here in Metro Manila. I'm still making more God bless you more 🙏

Thank you so much for this. I know this comment is on a tutorial from last year, but I am in South Africa, and we're hitting our 3rd wave , with very few vaccines available, and healthcare workers are close to burnout, so any tiny bit of comfort and relief I can offer is a blessing.

I've been struggling with other tutorials for these all night, I should have known to check here first. Your tutorials are always so clear and concise. Just finished making one of these for my housemate, as the mask elastics never fit over her ears right. They're compulsory now, so I wouldn't want her to get a fine for having a small head!

I was asked by my daughter to make these and give them (free, of course), to anyone wearing a mask that has the elastic around their ears. Well, this past Thursday, I made 3 in less than 30 minutes. I dug out some buttons I had and within fifteen minutes all 3 were completed. I have since made about 50 of them. My roommate goes to dialysis 3 days a week and I make sure he has one and I also have him take a bag full of them with him to giveaway to other patients, doctors that stop in, the nurses that work there and for anyone else that wants one. These are a perfect way for myself to not only get thru my cotton yarn stash but to also help the community and anyone else who needs them. I also gave my daughter a bag of finished ones today to give out down where she lives.

@@bellacococrochet As an asthmatic, I have a medical exemption from mask wearing, but i still wear a crocheted one. I cant breathe well with a proper mask on but a with crocheted one I can breath much easier, is better protection than nothing and it stops people freaking out and becoming abusive towards me for not wearing a mask. FAQ - Useful Information Buttons i suggest are 18-23mm and using cotton aran or dk yarn with a 3.5mm hook. Approx size when made using a chain of 15 is 9cm, but i am making some with 15, 16 & 17 chains which will adjust the length. Uf you find that dk is twisting then i have adapted the pattern and made a round of slip stitches after round 2, and it seems to make the adapter more rigid and twist less. Hope this helps x

I just went through researching a needle big enough to get yarn through but small enough to get through button holes. I found that a Tapestry Needle size 16 worked for me! Picked up a range of them (just to be sure) of sizes 16, 18, 20, and 22. The bigger the number the smaller the eye hole. At Michaels its Loops and Threads for the brand name of this multipack.

Thanks Bella! I'm an RN and those masks start hurting my ears after a while. I'm making some of these for my coworkers.

Lol my dad showed me this and said "can you make these?" And i said "sure, i guess" and he was like "well, that wasn't a yes" and walked off in a huff. Like wtf? These are cool though. I'll give it a try.

Thank you so much for this! I’m making one for my grandpa so the masks I’ve made won’t bother his hearing aids.

Would it be a good idea to maybe add a couple dots of hot glue on the backside when finished to keep it from sliding up/down your hair??

Thanks for posting. 👌 For anyone that wants to know the measurements. 3 1/2 inches length ( 9 centimeters ) 2 inches width ( 5 centimeters ) If you need to make it longer add more chains to your chain.

I crocheted a face mask but the first time I wore it in public I had to scrap it. It kept slipping up to under my eyes so I found it very uncomfortable. I'd even included the wire for shaping over the nose, but it didn't help. I think I'll need to try the cloth mask.

With 15 as a base chain mine came out to be about 4 1/2" by 1". I began chaining 20 as a base and was able to add about an extra inch onto the length.

I have a big stash of yarn but a lot of it is not labelled. Is there a way I can tell which yarn is cotton please?

Hi Sarah-Jayne. This is amazing, thank you for sharing. I only have DK weight yarn so my final extender looks smaller than it would with Aran yarn. I therefore wondered if I could do double crochet stitches on the last round? Thanks so much x

You can use any weight cotton yarn. But yes with Dk the adapter will be slightly smaller than if using aran weight. I have been putting a round of slip stitches after round 2 so that it makes the adapter slightly larger but also stops it curling. x
