Hey honies! Glad you like the yarn I'm using. It's from a company called Yarn & Colors. The gray is called Zen, a tubular nylon/cotton blend and it's color 096; the brown/orange is called Cheerful, a voluminous wool/acrylic blend, and it's color 026. You can find these yarns on Yarn And Colors website - www.yarnandcolors.com/

A tip for beginners: Even though I am still a beginner my tip is don’t let other people tell you what is right and wrong. Choose what it is comfortable for you for example I was told I have to hold my hook like a pencil but the way I hold it makes me 10 times faster than holding it like a pencil! If you do something differently doesn’t mean it isn’t right!
@caitlynbecker3626
@caitlynbecker3626 3 жыл бұрын
This! Also good to note that you don't have to hold every hook the same. For example if I'm using big yarn, meaning big hooks (looking at you Bernat Blanket Extra) I change my hook grip to accommodate. I usually do a modified pencil/chopstick hold, but when using extra large hooks I knife hold. It is ALL about what is comfortable for YOU.

The smooth yarn, the “training wheels”, the clear location description and why, the different stitches, how to read the stitches, why to rotate, and why to create a chain when flipping. Finally it makes sense! Thanks for remembering what was hard for you when you started-your empathy is appreciated and made this very usable.

I don't think I can put into words how helpful this tutorial is! I have watched SO many and this is the only one that clearly explains how to use stitch markers, how to read stitches and it's all finally, FINALLY making sense. One of my biggest struggles as a beginner has been counting stitches and knowing what part of a stitch to work into. It's all very well to say "work into the stitch" or "make sure you are counting stitches" but this is the first video that really clearly explains it. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. I am soooo grateful for you!!

So I am one of those people who need to see something, do something and then see something. For those of you who do not know, this means to see someone do it once, then try to do it yourself and then go back and see what you did wrong. I am at that point in my crocheting (albeit picking it back up after 40--ish years? - my grandma taught me so the muscle memory is coming back). I started a bunch of WIP's based on some basic understanding, but this helped me figure out a lot of things I was having issues with, especially tension. You are such an awesome teacher - this coming from someone who is constantly training people for a software company. I have appreciated all of your content from the training to the yarn snob videos to the videos with you and your mom. Thank you so much for giving back to the community with your knowledge and inspiration!

@@JamiLeigh77 just mess around making chains and restarting until you're comfy, holding the yarn is super important. I found some beginner videos that helped me. The yarn comes in to your left pinky if right handed, wraps around once, then over the top of the hand and your pointer leads it with your left thumb. The right hand holds the tool with your pointer and thumb with the rest of the hand holding the thing you're working on. Something like that. Just mess around until you're comfy

@@JamiLeigh77 I'm new too but flying now. I cut off the thing I started making 8 times before I got it right and then it clicked. A beginner video showing me how to ID where each "stitch" is was equally as important to me as holding the yarn because I make so many mistakes it's important to know how to fix them. Like the tool slips out and i have to take off a couple stitches to fix it would be a "start over" moment originally but now it's an easy fix :) you got this!

Aaaah this video was so helpful! I could see the stitches so clearly and you did such a good job of pointing out the stitches with the needle instead of your finger. You are such a good teacher! Thank you for explaining everything so thoroughly! Now I just have to practice practice practice 🤓

I just wanted to say a huuuuuge thank you for this video! I've watched 5, possibly more, videos teaching people how to crochet and they'd just say 'flip your work like a book' but not really explain what you were meant to be looking at, or how to find the stitches to work into at the top. This was perfect! The yarn is also really, really helpful to see each of the stitches. Sometimes I think the added bit of fluff gets in the way of seeing the stitches when you've just started, so this really made the process a lot cleaner. I know now that flipping the work will simply mean I'm looking at the bumpy back, the point of a stitch marker & why we hook a single stitch at the end of each row. Big, big thanks!

I’ve tried out a few ‘learn to crochet’ videos recently but this has been the best! In particular I like that you worked at a fairly slow pace and that you demonstrated and talked about the structure of the stitches, particularly showing where to place the crochet hook when starting a new row or stitch. Also how to count stitches and where to place the row markers. Other videos haven’t shown this or made it clear at all, resulting in me realising I’m doing something wrong but not knowing what! Your verbal instructions were also very clear and the yarn you used in this demonstration meant it was easy to see exactly where to work the crochet hook into each stitch and row. I’m watching from the UK and some of our stitches have different names which could lead to confusion, but I’ve made notes to use for future reference! Thanks for a great tutorial 😊👍🏻

I did this whole thing and I'm really proud of myself! I definitely started again multiple times and practiced each individual stitch a ton, dropped a few stitches here and there, and had some issues with tension (tight at the beginning, more even as I went along), but I learned so much! Especially foundational things that I would have definitely missed if I jumped straight into patterns (which I kind of did, but came back to this to nail the basics). Learning to identify stitches by the v at the top was definitely the most useful take away for me, as I'm horrible at reading stitches and get so confused when things come out slightly wonky and I don't know why. Turns out I was putting hook into the wrong place half the time lol. I still need to get better at reading the back and front of stitches, but thank you so much for making this! I'll definitely be coming back to it over and over. You explained things so clearly and just watching how your hands moved was hugely helpful in itself.
