I have watched MANY clips on KZbin. This is one of the best if not the best. It is not a “learning to crochet” tutorial, it is a demo showing how to “crochet an octopus”. One can slow down the speed of a video as well as go backwards or forewards 10 seconds at a time, if you need to. (google will tell you how). This lady deserves 5 stars! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I had no problem with the audio on my iPad, set at about 60%

Amazing first video, and very great instruction!! Not even being rude or sassy in saying this so please don't hate me: Friends...there is a pause feature, not a titled a beginner video but definitely could follow along and do per her wonderful instruction! I'm not a beginner but I still require a visual sometimes I just pause and catch up...or back track it and re-watch...it's all going to be ok! Yes it's a bit hard to hear, but we can see what she's doing! THANK YOU Anastasia for this; for your service in providing these resources for our tiny and mighty babies! I can't wait to make more! Wonderful video!

While I was in the hospital with Pancreatitis, I not only made an Octopus, but also a baby blanket. I now have orders to make more Octopuses for the nurses and other workers in the hospital. I'm going to put the recipients name on theirs and also add eyes and a mouth, too. My first one is for me, tho. Thank you so much for this wonderful teaching video.

This is a very clear demonstration, except for two points! Even with the sound turned up to the max on both KZbin and external speakers, I could bearly hear what Anastasia was saying. Also, the video assumes you already know how to crochet, so when she is doing the actual crochet moves, it is very, very fast - too fast for a beginner to follow.

Linda, Thank you very much for your comments and most of all for watching the video. This was my first video for youtube so we did have an issue with sound, but it has been resolved in our new videos. It is better to have too low than too high perhaps. =) For your second comment, thank you for bringing this up and giving me an opportunity. Yes, absolutely this was geared towards someone who already knows how to crochet or has the basic fundamentals in hand. This video was not designed for someone with no crochet knowledge. In my pattern description on he website there is a section discussing what skills are required for it. I do have a set of videos discussing and showing some basic techniques and I will be adding more. There are also other videos out there showing the basic techniques required. Crocheting is an awesome skill and craft, but it is like photography or cooking, There are plenty of basic videos how to show the basics of each, but it is not the best course of action to show the very basics for every video of every level. I will be adding in the future the intro projects that I show and teach in my beginner classes however. Thanks!

I didn't have a problem considering I can rewind it to where I need to. I fee if she slows it down too much it will confuse to make you lose your stitch place. My suggestion and what I do is rewind it to where you need to or skip to where you need it, you can do that. Also learn the different stitches and practice them before you do more advanced things. Crocheting is muscle memory a lot of the time. Repetitive motions. I learned to crochet when I was 12.. Stopped and then picked it back up when I was 19..

My son who is nearly 2 is disabled and has a cochlear implant and feeding tube, I am hoping that the tentacles will help stop him pulling on his cochlear wire and tube. Also hoping he will enjoy and recognise the octopus and it's something he can hold and take anywhere with him. Many thanks again😀

Hi When I first do the 4 steps at the beginning its going ok , however I realise the octopus curves over for the shape , but it does it on the 4th row and it's probably the size of a thimble to fit on the thumb ? Is it suppose to curve that quickly ? Just looks like it's very tiny any suggestions please ?

I've found your Octopus for preemies is the best pattern I've seen.... That being said somewhere in the tentacles, I don't know I put in nine not eight, & two came out longer. 32 chains every time.... I had another great grandson born a preemie & I just wanted to help... Knitted blankets for both boys... Any tidbits you have to offer would be great...
@apcrochet9121
@apcrochet9121 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and your comment! I completely understand wanting to help! It's very hard having a preemie. Once I've got overly excited while crocheting an octo and skipped the last round of decreases, where you go from 18 sts to 16 sts, and like you ended up with 9 tentacles instead of 8. I've seen some of my students make the same mistake. So I would say make sure you have 16 sts before starting tentacles. Please let me know if this helps and good luck to your grandson!

These projects require strict standards. Please refer to the standards that your country has developed and not a random video on KZbin. I know several countries do not allow sugar and cream and peaches and cream due to quality and safety concerns.

Better yet, call the local hospital where you want to donate these. In either case, my purpose with the videos is not to preach what yarn to use but rather how to make them. Thanks for watching.
@AuthenticMage
@AuthenticMage 5 жыл бұрын
There are very strict standards for making these. If not followed they risk the entire program being shut down. Faulty or inferior octopuses lead to little hands getting caught, choking, possible suffocation. If improper yarn is used it is not possible to sterilize them. So if you do not show the correct way to make them, which none of these would pass, you are ultimately doing more harm then good

@apcrochet9121
@apcrochet9121 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Britt, thank you for your comment. You have two options on where to place the stitch marker. It could either go into the first stitch of a round or the last one, the choice is your, just remember what you picked :) and be consistent throughout the project. When you work all around and reach the marker, work appropriate stitches into the marked stitch and then move the marker up into the newly made stitch. Let me know if it helps, I will try to do a video in the near future show exactly what I mean.

Since you used a 4.25 mm hook, does that keep the stuffing in after it is washed? Some organizations want there to be no visible gaps in the octopus.
@christinev3861
@christinev3861 7 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing it doesn't because the hook is "big." She actually didn't stuff it enough, but you get the idea. It has to be stuffed to the max. They require it stuffed to the point that it feels "rock hard" and will not give under the one finger push pressure. It's still a great video just to follow the process.

Hello Santana! Thank you so much for watching and for your comment. You are correct this is not a Learn to Crochet video. You or more importantly your fingers need to have the memory of making loops and creating stitches. It takes a bit of practice and you will be on your way! For my complete beginner students I recommend crocheting 10-15 every day for at least a week! That is usually enough to build finger memory. I would recommend starting with a project that doesn't have increases on the beginning of the project. It is just too overwhelming to learn how to do the stitches, identify them, been able to see how many you have, increase, etc when you are just starting out. Good luck!!

I am a bit confused. When you are working on the first tentacle, after you chained 32, you said you are going to start 2 sc into 3rd stitch from hook, but then it sounded like you changed it to the 2nd stich from hook. Just trying to under stand what constitutes 3rd from hook since you don't count the one on the hook. Sorry, I'm a novice at crochet but I really want to make these for a local hospital project.
@QTFAMKOL3
@QTFAMKOL3 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Noelle! I tried both ways, 2 sc into 3rd stitch from hook and 2 sc into 2nd stitch from hook. This does NOT include the loop on the hook. I prefer the look and feel of the later (2 sc into 2nd stitch from hook). I also tried using a "G" hook and an "F" hook. Both hook sizes produce a cute octopus. I prefer the "F" hook for babies, as it makes a smaller animal. I volunteer at a hospice and am making some of these cuties for my patients. I hope this explanation helps you. Good luck and have fun crocheting these adorable little creatures!
