Important note: If you are making this for a baby or young child please only use it as a photo prop, do not allow the baby or child to be unattended while wearing this elf hat.
This pattern takes some time to work up but is a super simple pattern. my tutorial shows the Women's size but has the changes listed for all sizes from 0-3 months up to men's!

I’ve seen so many tutorials for this type of hat and they were all made more difficult than they needed to be. This is the easiest I have ever seen of this pattern. Thank you so much!

Currently on maternity leave and don't have any spare cash to buy my partner a birthday present. I finally had the idea to make him the sleeping cap that he's wanted for months! Time to use up those scraps!

Great video!! Very easy instructions. Would it work to double the width of the last part (white yarn) so it could be folded over?

Hi I’m not sure if this account is still Active So I have a issue here I made a elf hat for My husband with another oattern and I used red heart soft yarn worsted weight 4 with 5.5 hook I followed the pattern and the elf hat was to Small He has a fat head my husband not sure if it’s his attitude or ego. 😂 but he’s had a big head how would I make this to make sure it’s gonna fit him
@ByJenniDesigns
@ByJenniDesigns 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Cassandra! Yes, I'm still active here but haven't had time to post recently. Thanks for the question! The way this hat is worked up will allow you to add additional rows of increases easily so you can work it up until it fit his noggin. 😉 It would end up a bit longer though. Maybe you'd like to check out the written pattern so you can see how the hat increases to fit any size, you can find that on my blog here: byjennidesigns.blogspot.com/2015/07/elfhatsforall.html?m=1 Thanks again for your comment/question, good luck & happy crocheting!

I’ve never crocheted before but I grabbed all the supplies I need to try this out! I’m thinking of possibly making it with thick stripes. Do you have any recommendations on how many rows thick the stripes should be on a men’s hat? And thank you so much for posting such a detailed video!
@ByJenniDesigns
@ByJenniDesigns Жыл бұрын
Hi Cass, if I'm doing my math correct, the men's size should end up being 68 rows (not including the white edging) and that's perfect because I think 4 rows per color would be great! 😁 Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Jenni, as I previously said, I love this tutorial, however, I'm having an issue with the ebd ifveach row. I'm doing 2 dc on the last stitch, then ss to join. The problem is my seam usbt straight, it spirals around the hat. What am I doing wrong please? This is my third attempt. 😵‍💫

I'm so sorry, is it possible you ate joing to the chain and not the first stitch of the row?

ok i have started and restarted this hat a dozen times, my yarn is getting worn out. I can't tell if you count the chain one at the beginning of your row as a stitch or if you skip it and start in the first real stitch. Help, does your slip stitch go into your chain one?
@ByJenniDesigns
@ByJenniDesigns Жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm sorry you're having a difficult time getting this hat started, the chain does not count as a stitch. You should be joining to the first dc of each row. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

The last slip stitch at the end of the row make sure to pull it snug to seal the seems of the row. It will help you determine your last stitch when you reach the end of your next row.
