Hey one thing that I did instead of starching the hat was stuffing 2 lightweight grocery bags inside the shell. Same idea for stuffing as the Twisted Kraken Hat. I wore my snail shell hat to a music festival this weekend and was turning heads everywhere I got a ton of compliments. I can’t get over how awesome this hat is!!

@@bogartknits7320 I love the petroleum blue hat but I really wanted a black one. So I got going after work this afternoon and finished the first hat and completely finished the second hat. I made the second hat a little smaller by only doing 14 wedges but it ended up being heavier than the one where I did 15 wedges. Weird.

Could you give me any pointers on the starching process please? Things like do you get the top parts soaking wet in the mix, or do you just dab it on? Do you squeeze it out? Inside and outside. How many coats? I love this hat design so much! Thank you for sharing!
@bogartknits7320 Жыл бұрын
Hello! I usually stuff the inside of the hat with a plastic bag with whatever rags or small towels to shape it. The plastic bag prevents it from sticking. I had used glue in the past mixed with water to stiffen it, but I've noticed there is a discoloration that shows up with certain yarns so I might try cornstarch next time. I usually spray the starch on with a spray bottle (I got it from the dollar store) once I have the shape that I want it. I have a styrofoam manaquin head to help shape it

It looks like you are doing yarn under stitches. Does it make a difference in the hat if you do yarn over instead?
@heather41583 Жыл бұрын
@@bogartknits7320 it looks like you do it all the way through the pattern. Once I am able to get the right type of yarn I want to make it.
@natob932910 ай бұрын
I do yarn under for almost all my projects, just out of preference. I only do it for single crochets though, I honestly don't see much of a difference when I yarn under for DCs or TRs.
@bogartknits732010 ай бұрын
Yes you are right @heather41583 I had a blond moment before, sorry about that. It is personal preference. Next time I make a video I will make sure to mention that.

The main attribute using yarn under is tighter stitches/ a denser fabric, which is ideal for a hat :)
