You could make a little bag by chaining than single crocheting all the way up to your desired length then chain how long you want the strap and then slip stitch it to the other side, then slip stitch a little bit, so it really keeps it in and then we’ve in the end and that’s how I make a little bags you could use that for the purple yarn

That big yarn, I'd make a loose chain scarf. Which should allow it to hang without being too much. But I have the same problem with big yarn. I end up making scarves or ear warmers for winter.
