An Update: Hello Jeremy - I've been using this skill and practicing the 8 piece drill that you use (not the 8-point star, the one where the 8 opponent discs are set up backed up to each peg and you just try for high score). I realized a better way to practice the Rick O'Shea 20. Set up for the 8 button solo drill, remove the 4 opponent buttons that are on the far side of the board from you. Then just use 4 shots and try to make each one a 135 degree angle-in shot. It helps to remove your missed discs because it's not about score and they just get in the way. Each shot can be done and the peg doesn't chane the angle. It works for 3 reasons. For one, it doesn't have the problem of your suggested drill trying to estimate a starting point for practice... each disc gets backed up to a peg. For two, it forces you to practice the Rick O'Shea from all across your quadrant. And for three, it just adds versatility to the 8 point drill which is also a solid drill. I thought this could be helpful. Thanks.

love it. I will also challenge you to attempt some shots without removing your previous misses. Are there ways to get super creative and try to make a 20 even with one of your other discs in the way? Can you combine a Rick O'Shea and a Bump & Run into one shot?

Great video! I’ll definitely be practicing these exercises! (As a rank beginner at Crokinole, I can only look to my knowledge of billiards. Using billiards as my model… to find where I want the shooter to go, I imagine it touching my opponent’s button at the spot where the tangent line between them aims at the 20 hole. Then I "just" hit it there. This would only work on shots between 180° and 90°… so the 135° makes a lot of sense.)

Billiards would give you a fantastic foundation to build on. Have fun with Mr O'Shea 😁
