True story, I saw them while doing this tour in '97. I was a just a Soph in High school, my father took my girlfriend and myself to this concert, and keep in mind, I was 16 or 17, my girlfriend had never heard of this band. When they played this song, her eye's watered and she took my hand. Later I asked what was she thinking when she heard it, and she looked at me and asked if we would have a love as wonderful as this song sounds. Now, 2011 we are married and have two perfect kids. I don't even know what tuning it's in. It sounds like an open tuning but I can't find anywhere that it's documented what he tuned to. It's one of those songs that sounds easy on the surface but it's really not. Lindsey's a fuckin jerk and I'm sorta glad he isn't in the band anymore, but damn can he write a captivating guitar part. In a pop context, no less.
@SamiKankaristo
@SamiKankaristo 4 жыл бұрын
I find that this is one of Lindsey's easier songs, but his songs are not easy, so it's still a difficult song to learn. This song is only 3 main riffs, no double stops, steady rhythm, etc. Songs like Big Love (the live version) or Never Going Back Again were way harder to learn for me personally. Still, singing at the same time as playing pretty much any of Lindsey's songs is just insane. I'm glad that I can't sing, so I don't even have to try. :D
@SamiKankaristo
@SamiKankaristo 4 жыл бұрын
@@k.g.alatore355 It's in regular tuning, but all strings are tuned down a half-step. The main riff starts with 3 different octaves of a G#/Ab (or an A in regular tuning), which is why it sounds a bit like an open tuning.

Band member relationships are very complicated. You want to feel tight with the group but also get recognition for your individual contributions. Add in the stress and exhaustion from touring and it can be a recipe for conflict. Plus, there is always that lead singer (Sting, Steve Perry, Peter Gabriel, Don Henley, etc) who thinks/knows that they would be better just going solo. That’s one reason I have a lot of respect for lead singers like Bono, Mick Jagger, Billy Joe Armstrong, Robert Plant, etc who were loyal to their bands.

I love how Lindsey and Christine are looking at each other and watching each other during this song. At first I thought he was looking at Stevie, but no, look closer - he's looking at Chris. A lot of people seem to think that Lindsey and Chris had an affair, and that this song is about that - I don't know how true any of that is, but this is still a beautiful song.

Just watched this in full on that old TV thingy as the BBC were showing a few documentaries about the band. As a teenager , Rumours and Tango in the Night were on constant play on my tape-cassette .... however I have somehow managed to not hear this song before now !!. This version is superb. 👍 The bass guitar has a fantastic hook all the way through. Surely up there with so many of their other great songs.. The whole band have some unique talents, but LB is surely one of the top musicians of his generation. Brilliant . 😎

Lindsey’s voice at 1:54… I’ve only just heard this song within the last few weeks for the first time, but the way he sings here sounds so nostalgic. His voice is so unique and powerful, like nothing else I’ve heard. Beautiful.

If Christine is looking at anything in this video shes looking at Stevie and Lindsey because the tension between the two was still a very real thing and Christine is definatley picking it up. Everyone on that stage is feeling the love that still unofficially binds Stevie and Lindsey together

Do you know anything about this Tour? They were all very chummy and at peace with each other. There are interviews and media all about this released in '97......The "tension" was more just them affectionately vibing off each other.

While I understand that this song may well have been written about Stevie (along with many others) The connection on this performance isn't with Stevie but Christine! lol initially I thought well maybe he's looking at Stevie but after really watching you can clearly see especially around 1:00 and 1:46 that he's looking at Chris. They've always been friendly on stage though (Mirage) so that's nothing new

It's very common between them when they sing harmonies. No one should read too much into it. They are signaling changes and beginnings and endings. You will see similar "looking" at the drummer when he is doing a guitar solo/ or battle rhythms.
