I think this video detracts from the lyrics of the song, which are really timeless. By the way, that was Jerry Garcia of The Greatful Dead on steel guitar.

Stills and Young from Buffalo Springfield, Nash from The Hollies and Crosby from The Byrds, this really was a Folk Rock supergroup and they showed it in that Deja Vous album.

Out of the abundant riches of great music that came out during my hight school years (1970-74), this album "Deja Vous" stands out most in my memory. Every song was perfect. Many happy memories of sitting around with my frineds sharing a doobie and having deep discussions. Then I grew up...

Empathy. The generation gap was a bitch because a number of the big issues of the 60s and 70s kind of broke along generational lines. This song came out when I was a teenager and I took it, at some rudimentary level, as waving a white flag to encourage empathy from both sides. (Not that I would have articulated it this way). I don’t see a generation gap so much now but we are polarized and divided to be sure. There is money to be made and power to be gained via controversy. Btw- This is the official CSNY video put out by Graham Nash and Steve Scher in 2018. The commonality he is highlighting is youthful activism and that we who were teaching our parents back then are learning from our kids now. Their words not mine. Cool. (Not my initial reaction though.LOL).

One thing you should be aware of is that it's kind of the opposite, Neil Young was a part of them originally coming out of Buffalo Springfield and then he left them at some point to do a solo career but they were good buddies and collaborated a lot.

Love me some Bread they had a lot of big hits between 69 or 70 and around 1976 or 77. They were soft rock but very talented and David Gates was a great songwriter and singer. The studio version of this sounds great. If you haven't done "Guitar Man" yet, a phenomenal song and my favorite by them. "Everything I Own" great song. "Baby I'm A Want You" "It Don't Matter To Me" all great songs. Hope this helps you out a little. You just caused me to have to put my phones on in bed tonight and listen to "Breads Greatest Hits". I've been tuning in last few days. I had knee surgery a few days ago so I'm laid up for a little while here. This is nice again tuning in with you. Peace ❤

Hey cuz. What a wonderful reaction. First I enjoyed the emotional gut punch the song gave you. It does that to me too. The song really hits home, doesn’t it? I also appreciate and respect your thoughtful reaction to it. I had not seen this video montage with this song before and it was an extremely powerful experience for me. I was born in 61 and I have lived through all the events depicted by the montage. It reminds me of both how far we have come in my lifetime yet how far we have to go. As for myself I’m an optimist. I think we will get there. I may be dead and gone by then but that’s the dream I’ve fed my children on. Thanks again for sharing your heartfelt reaction. I appreciate you.

Mr Bizmatic 😁 I can never get anyone to do a certain song that I've been asking others to do for months and months now. Maybe because I absolutely can't afford to give them money to do a reaction for me. Most I can do is subscribe, like and comment. I think you're a great person who would probably hook me up! It's a song by Blood Sweat and tears called Spinning Wheel. It'd really mean something to me if you'd do it,and it would certainly be appreciated. Anyone else here like that song? If so let Bizmatic know it's definitely worth it!

They are great. There’s a live set: 49 Bye byes/America’s Children is wonderful. On another tack, John Legend did a documentary on the civil rights movement and it’s music. It’s called Song Track for a Revolution. I think you would like it. The people who fought those battles are dying. He captured their voices.

Love, love, love this song. They only did this one Lp together before Neil Young bolted. Damn shame! De ju vu was one hell of an album. Released in August 1970 which I remember because I turned 12 that month and ran out and bought it with some birthday money and played the hell out of that record and still have it and it's beat to hell and back. Cover looks good but record is shot. Peace ❤

Hi Bizmatik, I was wondering if you're interested in doing a reaction to a German band called "Torrential Rain." These guys are about to release a new album, and their previous singles have made quite an impact on the metal scene here in Germany. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll provide you with all the information needed. Best regards, Hannes

I simply can’t watch that video with this song. I lived the video like every other kid of that era, to one extent or another, and the events & attitudes of those years need to be remembered & not repeated but this is a video of conflict & violence, and that is precisely not what this song was about, in fact the opposite. Sad to me that someone chose to poison it.

But politics is always meddling in/with the meaning of these songs, either using them for campaigns or trying to censor and ban them. Let's be real, change the lyrics to "keep your children dumb" and be obedient servants to a media frenzy and control freak mentality.

@mikecaetano

Actually, the video does match the song. There was a major generational divide in the 1960's between the younger generations and the older generations, between the Baby Boomers and their WWII era parents, between hippies and straights -- when straight meant "straight laced" rather than heterosexual -- between Peaceniks and War Hawks, etc. etc. etc. The song reflects an effort by "the hippies" to reach out to the older generation to tell them not to worry so much about them, to trust that they raised them well, and so on. Even the country music style of the song is meant to reflect that.
