Definitely another option, but adds a little complexity. Got to consider if you're adding more throw or canceling the throw. But if you know what to do English can certainly get the ball out of the way in a hurry.

most excellent. but the pivot only works when you're cb and ob are consistently that length apart in your example. if the cb and ob are 2-3 times further away, that amount of pivot doesn't work, right? Don't you need to compensate by adjusting target on the rail (therefore calculating new path) and amount of english used?

Yes, and while there is squirt involved, I think the bigger factor would be the distance of the ob to the rail. If it is closer to the rail it doesn't have the distanced to be thrown very far off line, or far away maybe too much. That's part of why I said the 1/2 tip rule is a starting point, but I would have been good to go into a bit more detail on this.

On greater observation, actually I think the OB and cue distance are more significant than I perceived when using pivot English. While pivot English feels more stable, when I put an extreme distance between them, I'm finding 1/2 tip of standard shaft sliding English still accurate for a half diamond adjustment but the pivot English at that distance becomes inconsistent. Thanks for drawing my attention to this. I will have to clarify my instruction on this issue.

The goal is actually a centerball full hit stun shot with no English. From there left and right English can throw the ball to adjust when it's not in line for a dead ball hit. Sometimes a little English gets on by accident as is the flaw in my stroke. A little draw won't be much but heavy draw will cause the ball to run long and heavy top can shorten the angle.

But overall i do often hit with a touch of draw as a default to try to hold the cue ball from running to a rail.

I like the extreme of diamond 3 through 1, fast speed with max english.
