What my professor could not explain in 1 hour. This is excellent. Thanks Jordan!

Thanks very much for a great video. One thing I've never understood about this circuit is how the ocillation amplitude is limited. In a spice simulation the output voltage seems to grow until it swings below ground and soft clips. Here we seem to assume that the MOSFETs remain in saturation. What am I missing?

Hi Jordan, Would you mind sharing what textbook you used in your class for covering the cross-coupled oscillator? Thanks so much!

Excellent. I have been looking for a video that explains an inductor using magnetism explained from the theory of relativity. I heard this from veritasium's video and started going in search of it. I haven't been able to bring out a convincing argument as to why emf on an L is proportional to di/dt. Generally analog designers stay at this abstracted level from maxwell. But then some books on frequency synthesizers explain using magnetic field and potential which again becomes unintuitive. I would be really happy to see someone teach it.

sir that was so comprehensive lecture. Thanks. But I could not find the next lecture of its continuation. Can you please share me the link of next lecture?

Wasim Nawaz Haha I just realized I never created part 2! Thank you for finding this mistake, I will make it right away and will update this comment with the link.

Thank you sir. One more thing, if I have any question, how can I ask. I mean to say, if it is feasible for you, can I have your email ID?

The next video can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqbFkqqlh9ugeZI I explain where to get the values for C and L, as well as how to make the thing controllable. Sure, it's edmundsj@uci.edu

shouldn't it be input admittance and not impedance? The impedance is approximated as -2/gm

You're absolutely right, I wrote Zin when the expression on the other side is the admittance.

Hi there. I really very like all your videos. I am new to electronics. I have one question. When you connect Vdd, how come it biases the transistors through R since inductor would short it out?
@thejunouyang

That's the point. He is not trying to bias the resistor. He was trying to bias the drain of the transistors.

I've always wondered how people came up with these sorts of circuits. It seems woefully unintuitive from first glance. Same for other oscillator designs or Sallen-Key filters. Like, is it sometimes dumb luck? Years of research? Guessing?
