Cross-examination in International Arbitration

The webinar "Cross-examination in International Arbitration" took place on 24 March 2022. Antonio Amusategui Batalla, chair of the Iberian Chapter within the European branch, introduced and moderated the event with speakers Giovanni Di Folco and Abdelkader Khalladi.
The webinar aimed to create awareness among arbitration practitioners and arbitrators regarding the need to raise the quality level of cross-examination skills in international arbitration under civil law jurisdictions. Comparisons were presented between common law and civil law approaches to cross-examination.
The differences between cross-examining witnesses of facts and expert witnesses were evidenced. Speakers discussed the need to introduce training for civil law jurisdiction lawyers at an academic level, and after that, they offered some guidance. They also gave suggestions on how to become better at cross-examination.
