One of the best parts of international travel is just how many crazy things happen. I was in the Czech Republic, and randomly ran into a friend of mine in Prague. We had no idea either of use would be there, and literally almost ran into each other.

For most of its history (Since 1340), Lviv was under Polish rule, later Austrian rule (then polish again) until 1944, so it being more like Central European cities than Eastern European cities makes sense.
