Michael Jordan is thought by many to be the Greatest of All Time on the court, and his eponymous sneakers birthed modern sneaker culture-however, has his influence on the culture been quietly eclipsed by Allen Iverson? Victor Cruz, Jerry Lorenzo, Kerby Jean-Raymond, Jesse Jones aka Filayyyy, Jemele Hill, and Pierce Simpson discuss and debate the merits of the two.
ComplexCon(versations) gathers some of the most prolific figures in music, film, television, sports, and fashion for a series of panel discussions on the subjects that drive our culture. Watch more conversations here: bit.ly/2SaexsZ

This is a generational discussion...none of these guys are probably over 32. They dont understand that MJs influence was similar to AIs in the 80s. Jordan started the baggy shorts, earrings, bald head, etc.

@@iandistel6751 Very true...just wish they would've had some panelists that grew up in the Jordan era. I witnessed both being a high school junior when A.I. was drafted. I would say the Fab 5 had just as much hip-hop influence as A.I. and they got their baggy shorts and black shoes from MJ.

Mike started Hip Hop culture as the NBA with Spike Lee. Spike Lee epitomized Hip Hop of the time and was the AI of Hollywood. No Jordan, no AI, Hip Hop or otherwise.

This is where culture becomes frayed... When you try to take down those who laid the foundation. Michael Jordan never played to make friends... He don't care if the other players hated him... Hip hop fashion, before this set of "leading followers" dictating the future, followed greatness and excellence... Why do you think for years it's diamonds gold and Gucci? Even AI looked up to Jordan, so for you guys to pit AI vs MJ it's the new Biggie vs Pac conversation. Your opinion doesn't make it truth. The division in the 90s that I witnessed along with the East Coast West Coast are tragic. Like MJ and AI, Pac and Big were both great and it's been a tragic loss that the hip hop community (and the world in my opinion) still has not fully recovered from. Just look around at all the fakeness and you know I'm right. These kids never watched Jordan... This gig was so set up with AI invited. Let's no longer continue to be divided on which family members to side with and just be family. I got love for AI and really appreciate him.

Jordan was like a superhero. More aspirational , that's probably a big reason why his shoes were so desirable, it was like the only piece of Airness we could achieve and make our own. A.I. is and always will be my favorite player of all time. A.I. was influenced by the hip hop culture but mj was/is so iconic that he influenced the hip hop culture even though he's not even into hip hop.. Why do you think rappers like Jay Z and athletes like Mayweather announce "retirement" only to keep coming back? MJ started all that. Skills were equal but mj's drive, intelligence and dedication to the game were levels above AI and that's what separates them.

Listen I’m definitely an A.I. Fan! Period. BUT Jordan was the innovator. Even today people still wear Jordans. Jordan is a world wide household name. I believe that this panel is a little bias just due to age range. They were both greats and I respect them both. A.I. Does seem more like someone you could meet and be cool with. Jordan seems like your dads friend that you respect.

This is a Iverson PR campaign. Everyone knew this kid was going to be good. I am older than that panel and they don't know Jordan's had already elevated from the street type life. Tobacco's and all that was way behind them. Teachey NC was behind James Jordan. They were in Wilmington raising him off of GE and Banking money raised this kid. As for forgetting where he came from, he would come to Teachey road park and play pickup with the guys from the community. They still talk about the battles today. I was not fan fair. When he hit the league, he could even come to the court or hid grandfather's house without sneaking in. He could even enjoy his grand mother's good cooking. Groupies everywhere!!!

Jordan did pass y is it so easy to forget MJs flaws. We have immortalized MJ to a player that done no wrong never loss in playoffs and the first round. Never passed on the last shot which all is false. We need to just stick with the #s his numbers are amazing but to lie or rewrite his story perfect is a disrespect.

They have it all wrong. Allen "AI" Iverson is not a 'Former' NBA All-Star... He is an NBA ALL-STAR!!

Right and hip hop fashion didnt truly spread until the late 80s( golden era ). Jordan didnt set trends though. He was the first rocking baggy shorts, gold chains and dope shoes on a nightly basis. I'm not even gonna get into his actual game cuz he still the GOAT
