I'm using similar procedure, but with looping of the first bar (or more) to match the beat. It's quicker than jumping back, see this: 1. load new track, 2. activate loop, 3 start playing, 4. in moment of transition switch off looping.
@tankerock4 жыл бұрын
Yeah thats what I do too.. I loop the first 16 or 32 bars of the next song, beat match it. Adjust levels in my headphones and turn off loop when I'm ready to use it. Then I'll either, (1) lower the levels of the first track as the 2nd one is coming in (2) cross fade (3) echo out the first track

id also say it's good for in the moment corrections. say you're bringing in a track (or want to repeat a chorus), but wish it was 4 bars back and you hadn't set a loop or que point.
@rickrod47016 ай бұрын
Yeah, thats what I do also. I find that to be easier and faster. I also like to use the roll feature alot to create drum rolls for example on Reggaeton tracks and at times around 1 bar before the start of break.

Excellent technique, all though my personal feelings are DJ tutorials focus too much on using edited tracks with long intros. I feel this way because I have been djing since 1983 & we didn't have such creative control over a track as you do with the most simplest digital track. I learned to be creative with what I was given on a record, tape, or CD lol. I never have a problem blending or mixing any track or genre. With that said I love learning new creative ideas & this is the reason I subscribe to your channel. I look to you and a hand full of other you-tube djers because I respect your opinion & like today actually learn useful new techniques. Bravo sir I like this & will always follow you to enhance my journey as a DJ. (just as a note I've been a resident dj since 2009 every fri & sat. I also dj on Monday's & Thursdays during this same time period.)

So my question with this is: Does the cue or the hot cue act as the starting point to go the 16 beats back ? I see that you start going back without a sense of beat or bars.
@JazzHory4 жыл бұрын
While the tracks are playing, the beat jump holds the beat but will go back/forward 4 bars/8 bars/16 etc eg If you start beat jumping on beat 3 it will continue counting from beat 3 in another section of the track. Hope that makes sense

Does this assume you have quantize on? It seemed your jump backs were at a random time...wouldn't you have to do the beatjump on time with the beat?
@jeevanh264 жыл бұрын
You dont have to have quantize on if i remember correctly. It skips you precisely 4 beats ahead (or more/ backwards depending on which button you press). So lets say you are at 2/3 of the beat and you press forward 4 beats, it will put you on precisely the same point (2/3 of the beat) but just 4 beats further into the song. Hope that makes sense

Simple and helpful video but I have a question to make. Why don't you just mix the first bar of the second song with the last bar of the first song? I mean, is there any difference in the result or is it just easier to keep track of the mix?
@Crossfader4 жыл бұрын
This is great if you don’t want to have to wait until the last bar of a song before mixing. It also means you can make sure your timing is right before the transition happens, rather than hope you press play perfectly on time.

Cool trick.. but what if you go back 16 bars and the section playing still has 32 bars left ?
@dyonissiszoes37474 жыл бұрын
IMO, this is overcomplicating something that could be done instantly with using a cue point on the beginning of the vocal. You could even blend it in and create a remix like you would with a sampler. But I'm using Traktor, maybe this isn't possible in Serato? (I doubt it though).
@dKidLigh264 жыл бұрын

@mamastarz79584 жыл бұрын
exactly, only difference is the echo to kill the other beat..

All this is to me is a complicated way of the echo out, then drop in the next track using a cue point like you stated. I rather keep it simple lol

How are you lining up the phases perfectly by just beat jumping back? Specifically, in example 2, you beat jump back 4 times to negative space on DECK B and it perfectly starts at the beginning of the outro phase of DECK A. How did you know?
@Crossfader4 жыл бұрын
This comes down to understanding music theory, something we teach in depth in our online courses but here is the basic maths. A 16 bar phrase is the same as 64 beats. Therefore if beat jump is set to 16 beats, pressing it 4 times will jump backwards by 16 bars. Hope this makes sense!
