The link cueing is a great feature. Being able to quickly preview what’s happening later in the track is ace. The new way to browse, search and see your tracks and playlists is great too. People seem to be looking for features like dual layers and on board FX but as a club DJ this is the last thing I need.

Finally, a reasonable take. All the hobbyists in the comments seem to be missing the fact that this unit is ultimately not for them. I don’t like Denon’s new players and most of their “groundbreaking” features are completely irrelevant to club/festival work, whereas the stuff Pioneer put in the 3000 will actually help me do my job better. I’m really happy with this unit.

The problem is that it doesn't give you the option. If a Denon user doesn't like dual layer, he can just not use it. But the feature is there and is useful for many others. Same for all other "fancy" features. With the new CDJ, a lot of modern options don't exist - is this really more professional?

I work as an event tech and our company does rentals. People rarely ask for denon prime and it will probably stay that. Most people renting from us dont care for "performance pads", or music streaming. But bigger screens and some minor improvements are welcome and getting rid of the CD slots is something I will appreciate in the long run.
@annekedebruyn77972 жыл бұрын
I can totally see that. Unless performance pads are specifically your style, I rather have more functional buttons. Kind of a bummer regarding the CD. Sure, the vast majority will use a USB stick. But there are still many occasions where having a CD player would have been nice to have.
@iliketoast-q9b Жыл бұрын
You don't see a problem paying full price for minor improvements? It's even more expensive once you consider that Pioneer DJ doesn't offer dual-layers on their top-of-the-line standalone DJ-player. So you have to buy/rent 4 units instead of two no matter what if you want 4 decks but I guess that's good for Pioneer DJ and their bottom line as well as gear rental services. There is also no redundancy with just one USB-port and if you ever accidentally disconnect your flash-drive this "high-end" DJ-player still only has a 4-bar emergency loop...Denon devices buffer the entire song. I could go on but I'm sure people renting these things simply don't know what they're missing, still I think Pioneer DJ will lose their "cLuB sTaNdArD" status in the future.

Thanks for a honest and unbiased review. As you so rightly said, these are aimed at the professional that could turn up at a venue having never used them before therefore they must have a familiar feel. I was impressed with the sound quality, browsing options and large touch screen but mostly with the high quality jog wheel and responsiveness in terms of minimal lag due to the power of the MPU. I’m sure the ‘bells and whistles’ will come further down the line in response to those that actually use them.

@@DeejayPulse Yes, I am. But a picture that was upscaled from VGA to 4K, still doesn't look like a native 4K picture. That's not different with music. @DJMaartenVersteeg4 жыл бұрын
@@BlueHawk80 To be fair: it is removing a CD slot *and* adding a fast processor which makes this a computer. Plus a higher quality sound output (card). Also a bigger screen and metal instead of plastics. So in terms of hardware I think these components alltogether may be more expensive than NXS2. I do think this is an expensive piece of gear, but I also think it has better price/value than the 2000 NXS2 which was only a little less expensive and offered less than this. For home DJ the XZ standalone controller has good price/value. And the Denon range. I had the Denon SC6000M's, but now I got these CDJ3000's instead. Main reason is walled garden. You need to stay in RekordBox 5.1 to export music collection to Denon prime. And I wanted to use RB 6 with the cloud sync and mobile app, etc. And also the future iterations in rekordbox which would otherwise be lost for me. Surely there is a workaround for this, by maintaining music in two pieces of software. But the hours of extra work attached to that - on a yearly basis - are also expensive.

super useful review as usual, Jamie from a leaked photo i saw i was underwhelmed, but having seen this detailed review, this is a great update. Processor, screen and new hardware buttons to replace fiddly software ones are massive improvements. key sync is excellent too - possibly the biggest change for me (i'll assume the sound quality will be good). in terms of performance this increases your play next options massively. possibly the most creative addition. i'm really not convinced by the hot key placement. i'm glad they're on there, so it's a start! and it's a shame they're aren't performance pads. i'll certain there'll be features added in updates. particularly the centre screen for BPM, waveform etc. all in all, a solid comeback from pioneer. i think Jamie's observation about pioneer having to iterate, rather than make massive leaps is a good one. they have a dominant position in the market, whether we like it or not, so it would be a huge risk for them to tear up the general design/functionality. given there's no such thing out there as the 'perfect' device, i think this is a solid response to help maintain a good chunk of that share.

Wow, it looks like Denon kicked Pioneer's butt this time around. Horrible location for the hot cues, way over priced, only a 9-inch screen, and no connectivity. Woops! What are they smokin' over at Pioneer? The Denon SC6000 got the hot key location right, it has a 10.1 in screen, and is $1499. Tomorrow I will be putting my order through for two Denon SC6000 decks. The CDJ has been the industry standard in the clubs for years and might be Denon's greatest challenge, but Denon is on the move. They've signed endorsement deals with some major DJs, so it might not be that much of a challenge, since that level of DJ can request whatever they want. Most likely over time clubs will just have pairs of both Pioneer and Denon decks. Not a deal breaker for me, but the play/pause and cue buttons on the Denon's seem so small compared to the CDJ's.
@dsquareddan4 жыл бұрын
Leonardo DaCapo I mean you said it right there, Denon has to resort to paying DJs to even consider using their gear in the pro touring market. And that number is under 10 out of thousands and thousands of big name artists currently. Nobody is voluntarily changing their technical riders they submit to venues & festivals from pioneer gear. One huge reason that is not going to change is because many DJs love the ability to play an unexpected B2B set with another artist. With newer rekordbox, your library is no longer functional on denon players. No one will want to alienate themselves in booths by being unable to just walk up and play their USB they’ve organized and maintained for several years now. Don’t get me wrong, denon has some great features. But truthfully there isn’t anyone really in pro touring market that’s like “ah I wish cdjs could do this”. I work full time as a back line technician on major festivals and tours with some of the biggest names in the world. I can tell you that over anything else, they want familiarity. And they don’t care about the price cause they don’t pay for them. Whatever they put down on their technical rider is bound to a contractual agreement by promoter and production company putting on the show to supply that gear. If they want it, they get it. That goes beyond DJ gear. Most top end DJs have explicit requirements for booth monitor speakers, FOH mixing consoles etc. that cost thousands of dollars. The price of cdjs doesn’t cross the minds of worldwide touring DJs.
@labelhz57194 жыл бұрын
Denon has to pay professional DJs to use their products, pros pay pioneer for theirs. Also - why would you order anything that expensive without first trying it? Have you played on the 3000s yet? Might be smart move before making a purchasing decision.

So let me just check, No dual layer. No performance pads. No inbuilt track analysing. No inbuilt option for hard drive. Hot cues in completely the wrong place. Rekordbox will probably start charging a subscription to use some features. At least £500 more than a Denon with all the above options, (minus the subscription). Sold.

Nice review. Disappointing unit. "A new dimension", where exactly? No dual layer, Wifi built-in, on-board analysis, loop encoder or performance pads, no emergency AC power or full track buffer, USB port has just 1.0A and SD cards are limited to FAT with 32GB. For your mighty 'club standard' you pay 2400$ per unit, just ridiculous.

Well... approx. one year after the SC6000 this machine features way less functions and is way more expensive. I just dont get it. Why is there no dualdeck function? Yea, I know that playing with dualdeck is kind of messy, but if you don't want to, just buy two more players. Keysync is nice, but Denon had this 2 years ago. Streaming just with a PC, Lightshow just with PC, just one single USB-A-port (WTF?). Even the UI does not look like is has been optimized for Touchscreen use. Many really small icons or labels, that require precise movements. This is not how touchscreens work. But I guess all the Pioneer users will use the browser knob anyway. It is kind of sad to see what they did here. The new CDJ had a lot of potential but they missed almost every chance to make it competitive. Do I think Pioneer has missed the market at all? No. Because people will buy it. Fanboys would also buy it if it was a 2000NSX3 with one more button for 4000$. Sad. BTW, @Crossfader, I just hate this excuse that players are made for festivals or big clubs. This is just bullshit, sorry. The Tour-Series was made for festivals. CDJs were always made for the DJs. I know so many people that have 2000NXS2 at home. Such a high price cannot be excused by "this is not made for the home studio".

Honestly, it's quite embarrassing how Pioneer can use their position as a market leader. They worked their way up with phenomenal gear, but now the options added are more or less only what Denon has already introduced months prior. In my opinion Pioneer shouldn't be allowed to rely on being the club standard because Denon is coming..... fast. Where is WIFI, Streaming, Multitouch Display, Adjustable Jog Wheel Displays, ...

They done everything to deserve being No. 1, but now they're abusing that position and as long as people keep buying their stuff at their crazy prices, they will forever remain there and continue to rip people off. The only way it will stop is when the Pioneer fanboys open their eyes and shut their wallets

I feel like pioneer still needs to step up their game. They might be "the standard" but they are not really pushing the technology the same way they used to/ how Denon is doing it now. As a Pioneer user I ofc love them but I will not upgrade my products since I don't see any major reason, especially for the massive price difference. Hope to see them take the critism in a good way since a lot of people seem to agree...
@DrudgeAudio4 жыл бұрын
I’m not going to begin to compare this to the Denon, because let’s face it - the Denon players have more features for less money. All the people and venues who need top end multimedia players (james hype, AMC, big DJ Festivals and clubs etc) will likely be given these and we will continue to see pioneer on videos, live streams, gigs, festivals and tutorials - so pioneer will always hold the market share. They will be the players for every top performances that we see. Guess all we can do is spend less than half the price on a Denon setup and laugh at any ‘prosumer’ splashing out on these with their own money
@leckrer28164 жыл бұрын
You are 100% right. Problem for me is that I absolutely hate the look and feel of Denon gear although they are miles ahead by the technical aspect. That personally doesn't help me a bit though if I don't like to work with the units. For example I always feel like the SC5000/SC6000 looks like a freaking spaceship with that imba-large screen. So i guess i won't be upgrading from my 3 CDJ 850s anytime soon. Neither to newer CDJs nor to Denon Equipment. Relying on all these new fancy features (waveforms, sync, key sync, visualization) takes away a lot of fun as well.

Great review and Jamie’s summary sums up the fact this is an evolution rather than revolution as artists need to feel comfortable quickly when performing. I wonder how robust the touch screens will be over time as we’ve all seen DJs in clubs being a little over zealous and less careful with club equipment as they may be with their own.
