This certainly is a hot topic of conversation with the release of the new CDJ-3000. We thought it only right to break down both players side by side to give you a better insight of which is right for you.
Which one would you buy?
Pioneer DJ CDJ-3000 or Denon DJ SC6000?

Hey CrossfaderTeam, thank you for posting! 👍 This comparison definetly seems more fair, considering your transparent Y/N list. I still don't regard all of the 3000's shortcomings excusable, especially basic stuff like missing on-board analysis, proper track buffering or that downgraded USB-port, considering the price. But we can agree that both are great decks that can fulfil professional duties. It's good to have the choice.

@@garlicnaan1 hehe, good analogt😂 Pioneer does innovate but they clearly cant fathom why anyone in their wildest dreams would want to play without bringing their precious laptops with them. Its ridicoulous.. How many controllers have they releases in 2023? Like har a gazillion, a couple very neat Even, but all having their aversion to multouch screen and ability to show four tracks simultaneously. Its just silly! Beck, over a decades ago Even Numark understood these ideas and put them into the low cost, rugged IDJ pro which you could put in a backpack and had a screen larver than almost anything on the market today. No. I am really curious what Denon has up its sleeve. Maybe all they have to do is just get metal casings for their primes, longer lasting batteries and speakers (another Numark innovation) on the Denon Go which I really like.

Denon for me. Many of the big boys are using them now. And the Miami music week last yr was the absolute death of Pioneer for me. When the pioneers died on stage in the pouring rain. But the Denon SC5000''s kept working all night long in heavy direct rain. They filmed water pouring out of the bottom of the Denons and its Mixer and they were still working fine. Why..... Conformal coated boards. Something that Pionner dont do. FYI the 4 Pioneers from that night were scrapped and thrown in the bin. When they were taken apart to try and dry them out there was already too much corrosion on the board to rescue them. Then we had the same thing at Creamfields 2019. Pioneers died on stage in the pouring rain and they had to rush another set onto the stage and get them plugged in. As an ex Serato user, i prefer the SC5000 with its brighter coloured buttons, just because its what im used too. They are just leagues ahead. Ministry of Sound night club in the UK now have 4 SC5000's in each room.

My friend the Denon rep. here in Sweden had one of his SC5000 die on him after only 2,5 years of use by only him. Now, 5 months later it's still in the Denon repair shop. Probably dead beyond repair, and that after a number of other issues. I have used Pioneer gear since the first CDJ-500 in 1994, and I have never had an error or breakdown, not on my own gear or in the clubs gear, in 26 years. So now we know. In pouring rain we pull out the Denons and for every other occasion we use Pioneer. Then maybe they last equally long.

you obviously dont know much about the Pro market. There is literally no club, festival, rental company that will invest in Denon because 99,99% of the DJs that play using digital players use Pioneer. No one in their right mind would invest in Denon to not see them make any money. Obviously there will be some exceptions that will get a pair of Denon but that such a small number that you can basically say they are non-existent in clubs and festivals. Wedding DJs, bedroom DJs and other DJs that bring their kit to play might well get Denons but you will (almost) never see one in a club or festival. They are feature packed but so fucking what? 90% of djs dont even use all the features of the nxs2. But the main thing for Pioneer is not their hardware but Rekordbox. Most DJs have their libraries in Rekordbox and can basically go anywhere in the world and know that there will be some Pioneer kit in the booth. The primes are nice but Denon are lightyears away from getting close to Pioneers position. But it is a good start.

Ok Crossfader I usually always respect what you guys say but this sounds like a paid ad. This is garbage. All the people who have been loyal pioneer customers and have been waiting for this release to blow their mind. Vanilla at best. No multitouch, no dual layer support, and it can't even analyze files on the fly. What a slap in the face. I respect the godlike skills of pioneer branding and marketing, but if this doesn't seal the deal on switching to denon then you are simply a blind fanboy. I cannot believe this is what took years. They could have done this revision in like a month from the nexus 2. This is not worthwhile upgrade whatsoever and at 1k more than the Denon's. I for one am disappointed as all hell and will not support pioneer this generation. If the clubs want to keep giving them their money for an interior product that is just stupid. Being ok with mediocrity hurts all of us and only hinders development of products in this space. Give your money to companies that invest heavily in djs not companies who sit on their asses and milk every last penny. I love Pioneer. .. but this is not what the supposed leader of an industry responds with. Total joke.

However Denon should work on their Engine (Rekordbox equavalent software) it has missing features like smart crates, and it's development is not as fast as their hardware development.

Point is that Laidback Luke brings his own gear to events (or has Denon deliver it, either way...), all the other smaller DJs will just get there and there'll be gear already there and it'll be Pioneer as always. Hell on most events with Laidback Luke you see the CDJ setup right next to him, either as a backup or for the next DJ... The Denons aren't bad (though the software is...), it's just that the CDJs are much more familiar for every DJ. Imagine you're a club, you can buy Denon and hear nearly every DJ complain every night that they're not CDJs or you can buy the CDJs and know that every DJ that comes along (apart from vinyl DJs...) will know how to work with them. Not that the Denons will be impossible to work with, they're just a bit of a risk while the CDJs are not. Having said that I wished Pioneer would try something with the CDJ 3000s such as dual deck and definitely built-in file processing, this just seems like the 'CDJ 2000 NXS2 large screen version', they pop a bigger LCD on it but not even multitouch... They pop the big LCD on and still basically force you to use the knob, why not implement multitouch and leave the knob on the 3000 for both functions, remove the knob in the CDJ 4000 when it comes out to move on instead of this half-arsed LCD, bit of a disappointment after all those years...

I'm not a DJ, I'm a rental company owner and, to be really honest, I can't see any real reason to upgrade from the 2000NXS2, it doesn't justify the huge price. I've watched a live stream of a DJ playing with 2 3000 and 2 NXS2, nothing he did on the 3000 he couldn't do on the NXS2, and as far as the reviews I've seen, its pretty much all there is to it. the reality is that the 3000 is more of the same for much more money with a little hint of denon sprinkled here and there. I really wish DJs started learning to play in ANYTHING but pioneer. And I garantee you, here where I live, we won't be seeing rental companies with 3000's for the next 5 years, unless ones nxs2 breaks and nobody can fix it.

Hi DJ Holland, with all the respect you deserve, I differ with you, don't tell me that the CDJ3000 is a more professional product than the SC6000, if even the SC5000 has more advanced functions than the CDJ3000. This is like IPhone and Android users, why do you have to pay more for less? just for feeling? because if I have an iPhone does it give me status? I expected that Pioneer DJ would at least reach similarities to the SC6000, but it doesn't have wifi, I need a laptop and pay Recordbox just to get services that the other gives me for free ?, the cues were crazy at the top of the JOG, It is uncomfortable. the difference between Pioneer DJ and DENON is that the DENON developers are active in the forums listening to the improvements that the consumer wants, because in the end the product must be for us, Pioneer does not listen.

Pioneer backed themselves into a corner if this is to be the next flagship player. Forget about it's familiarity of design and function a new generation of DJ's who are the future of DJing are gravitating towards Denon's feature rich players, no one want to be held down a propitiatory platform like Rekordbox. Popping in a usb or sd card and having the deck analyze your tracks is the game charger, creating crates and playlist not needing to use a pc/apple computer is a plus and streaming from other music source. It's obvious the developers and people in marketing at Pioneer are not DJ's. The CDJ 3000 should have been introduced as a new entry level kit and priced it for under 1200 usd and not 2,300.

Pre covid, I played with my Denon Prime (2 sc5000s+ x1800) set up every weekend and it was an absolute rock star. I'm not a DJ that only plays in nightclubs for an hour but someone who worked in local bars playing 10-2 weekly. Some thoughts: Pros of Denon: - Dual Layer Function: this has came to save me in a pinch numerous times. If 1 of my 2 players locked up or freezes mid set, I'm able to continue spinning on 1 player while I fix the other. If this function didn't exist, I would've had to stop the music. Additionally, Denon cache's the entire loaded song vs. Pioneer's infinite loop. If I have a gig that I know has old players, I have the option to bring in 1 player that I can spin on all night. Making it even easier than bringing a controller. - Build Quality, Size & Weight: At 9 lbs, the players are light compared to Pioneer (12-15lbs). It's small enough to slide into small booths and has been able to continually work even with a few bruises. - Streaming: Playing private or corp events, you're going to get requests and there's a good chance you don't have every song. This will become a must-have option and it has helped me keep clients very happy. We'll see if the 3000 even gets this option since there hasn't been confirmation yet. - Roll Wheel: Being able to create an immediate timed loop by pressing a knob and adjusting is just to much fun to not have. Creating a loop before mixing to the next song comes super easy. Yes, you can do it via loop buttons as well, but it's just more intuitive with a wheel. - Updates and Service: Denon has done a terrific job in the updates they've provided, and has come consistently. The updates since launch has greatly improved the function of the players and when I ran into an issue, Denon sent me a replacement player before I even sent my original one in. - Aesthetics: The Denon just pops in a dark venue with all the lighting customizability features. You can change the colors of the players to the vibe you want to set, and I've had plenty of DJs in awe over the look of the players. - Price: At this current time, you can buy my entire set for about 3200 bucks which is a steal if you compare it to a full Pioneer setup (w/less functions). W/ holiday season coming up, you'll be able to find an entire setup WITH A COFFIN for under 3k. Cons: - You sacrifice your work flow if you continually jump between Pioneer and Denon. Preparing music for Serato, Engine Prime and Rekordbox sucks. If you're an actual working DJ, a Denon set up is more "professional" than Pioneer even with the 3000s on the market.

@@djaya.official Please don't talk as if you know the history... You obviously know very little and understand less. Not even the Denon part... I just listened to your last set, the one from sept 16, and I could see that you are using 2 channels only, only use the filter and wash effect and some EQ'ing. You are beat matching a pre planned set of mainly EDM and bass house, only going from drop to breakdown during the whole set. Why don't you use any of the beat effects at all, don't you like them? I know I don't. I spent $2000 on that piece of crap and lost a lot of money selling it, yet it took 3 months. Very expensive learning experience. What you are doing in that live set, I can do on a couple of CDJ-500s and a DJM-250. Except for the wash effect. That's gear you can buy for less than $200, and that must make you feel ripped off. Another thing you still haven't learned is to differ between price and cost. As one of my best friends and colleague happens to be a Denon rep here in Sweden, I know exactly how much problem he's had with his SC5000's and X1800, which includes broken cue/play/pause buttons after only a year. Took ages to get repaired and cost a small fortune. Black screens, needing restart of the unit, link problems and the mixer hang causing restarts. Finally, one of the SC5000's broke down completely, and is since 5 months in the Denon repair shop, likely dead beyond repair. Meanwhile I've had my Pioneer NXS2 setup + 1 year (4 years), and it has never been a failure during this time and it still feels and look brand new. As you just have demonstrated in your mix, it has more features than almost any DJ will ever use during a set, and it will last for years longer than Denon Prime. I also know that I will get a fair price and as of today at least 60% back of the initial cost. Compared to the Prime 4 where I lost 30% after a few hours of use. I have already a lot lower cost on my expensive gear than my friend using Denon. Those words ''reliability'' and ''durability'' in a pro environment are quite important. There's also spare parts and workshops available everywhere for those times an accident happens. All this contributes to the cost, and my guess is that there's no gear on the market cheaper than the Pioneer pro gear, looking at cost per used hour. Taking in to account your age and that you've probably not been playing 5 nights a week, preparing the other 2, year after year, while caring for family with a bunch of kids I can oversee your statement ''learning new is bad for some''. I can promise you that when everything you do is on routine and the little time you have outside touring, preparing and playing goes to your family, you'll understand better, if you ever find yourself lucky enough to be in that situation. This is what Pioneer DJ knows, and thus implement new functions in a slow pace and let's everything we are used to stay the same, almost. Don't forget that the Pioneer Eco system is a modular one. If you want to get creative, Denon is not even on the same play field yet. There's no external pad units, effect units or samplers from Denon. No 6 channel advanced mixers with use of up to 6 linked units. The players are made to fit in to this Eco system of various parts that all work together.

what a biased and non-objective "comparison"... The title is totally missleading.... it is not a comparison and also not a "who wins". It is a biased and non-objective bullshit talking over 11 minutes. Would've expected these players to be put side by side in every feature and directly compared and not only a "it is targeted to a different group" in some points... Current Gen DJs Such as Laidback Luke are starting to use Denon too, because Pioneer is just falling behind in almost every single feature. And also being the "Apple of the DJing industy" is not a good thing either. It means that products are overpriced, underperforming and not repairable, and also not having any basic water resistance. (I'd like to Quote Louis Rossman here, but I forgot the exact wording but it was something like "Apple still hasn't got the basic water resistance that a thinkpad had got in 2005"). The Denon Players already prooved them worth after Laidback Luke playing a B2B when it started raining. Pioneer failed, while Denon did hold up well... For me, being called the "Apple of an industy" is not a good thing at all. Apple might be doing some things right, but there are way to many problems for me to call it something good... I didn't really realized what kind of bullshit you seem to be talking until this video, maybe a follow-up apology video would be nice. But saying that the Denon Player totally destroyes the new Pioneer one would not look great in Pioneers Eyes and you would probably risk getting new review samples... So you probably havn't gotten the balls for it, which is very sad to see. I am dissappointed.

This is actually Perfect timing for Denon. Clubs aren't making money right now. In Canada 2 CDJ's and the new mixer will cost over $9000 bucks. when clubs re open and things start to go back to normal. Club owners if they survived the pandemic will not shell out that kind of money. it will be easy for dj's to say well hey you could pick up a set of Denons or Rane for half the Price. Other wise it's going to be we will keep the 2000's until pioneer makes something better and worthy of upgrading to. On top of that pioneer has a much bigger focus on controllers, look how many they have released. I don't think pioneer really cares that much about this market. If they did they would have at least used the layout of there very successful DDJ-1000 on this machine. It's not there bread and butter anymore. From a profit stand point as a company, why would they even care about CDJ, I don't blame them for putting it on the back burner. If I was a CEO in the parent company of pioneer I might not of even botherd, Im selling controllers left and right. why am I going to spend money on R&D when I can put something out and hardcore fans will just buy sight unseen. Sells well or not I'm gonna sell my Pioneer Controls and thats where 90% of my money is coming from. I need to recoup my 600 million dollars. InMusic has a completely different plan, whats there plan? well its obvious. It's right in there Company name, IN MUSIC. They bought Denon, Rane, Numark, Akai and other companies. How serious do you think InMusic is about this. They will make money by making inovating compelling enthuseastic products. Same as when Apple took the crown from Blackberry and Samsung made Apple completely reliant on Samsung for the highest qaulity mass production parts. It's a cycle, Pioneers parent company just came to make some cash they thought automatic market share. witch is true with the controllers thats working out like they want. They had no plans and no budget to compete with InMusics Agressiveness and innovations. They won't do anything Risky untill they have made at least 2 or 3 times there 600 million dollar investment.

The actual answer to this question is, “depends on personal preference”. You can’t say which one is better it all depends on a persons preference. I prefer having one deck per channel, I’m not keen of duel layer, and being a Rekordbox user, of course I would choose the CDJ 3000. But for others, some people might want to save money so the SC5000/6000 would be an ideal choice, more features and control for the price. Again this is just common sense, they are both different and unique in their own way. Like per say, comparing a Lamborghini to a Ferrari, one isn’t better than the other, it depends on what people want from a car. This is just the way I see it, good to compare but impossible to say which is better, because again, all comes down to personal preference.

Not liking Dual layer shouldn't really be a factor. If you don't use Dual layer on the Denons then it makes no difference at all. So if you don't use it then literally the only difference is the one button that lets you switch layers.

Denon all day, the fact that they have layers and about $1000 price difference just make it so much better. That being said the CDJ-3000 will probably sell more because people don't like change.

People fighting over what is the best and I’m still using 2 Denon-S3700 and 1 technics. I did ordered a Sc6000 yesterday because it’s the best bang for your bucks. I have a pioneer djm750 mk2. I did considered getting the PIONEER XDJ-1000 MK2. But the Denon got my attention. I have a RecordBox folder, Denon folder, cds and vinyls. I adapt wherever i play.

Also, Pioneer cannot nearly be compared with Apple, because with Apple, you can see what you are paying for and Apple doesn’t release a phone once every 5 years.

I am no fan of apple and even I had to disagree with that, like you say, apples products may be similar but they release new phones every year don't they?

They're both good. Pioneer is going with a proven formula and Denon seems to be more forward thinking. In these times it would be Denon players for me. Combined with Pioneer's V10 mixer. I eventually would want to acquire the lastest model CDJ you can get with a CD player built in cause to me you must have a way to play CDs. I rather have it in the unit.

BTW... I know that Y’All Reviewers are so FKing Scared to lose ur partnership with Pioneer... but stop saying: there are no massive improvements cuz they are designed for clubs and Djs, so they can still “feel at home”. In 10 years from now are they going to create the same products cuz with the same features cuz DJs needs to have everything in the SAME PLACE? LoL

I believe that it all has to do with how a DJ feels using either of those players. Some may fall in love with the new improved Pioneer jog wheel and the key-shift option, others may need all the features that Denon has that Pioneer does't like WiFi, multi-touch screen, analyze on-the-fly etc. Both devices are top-notch, this is not a matter of winner or loser.

We need a real comparison, not some excuse. The fact that Pioneer DJ is lacking behind is undeniable. And everyone who buys this product is just too lazy or too afraid to switch.

I absolutely love the Denon SC6000 player. Im actually not looking forward to being forced to go back to Pioneer equipment at clubs.

Justin Urbaniak There is no "being forced", just take your babys with you. Someone's gotta start showing the clubs that there is demand on Denon Products. If everyone who rocks the SCs did it, the clubs are then forced to buy them soon or later.

I own an SC6000, and I adore it. After using it for a while, I can't even imagine reaching across the jog wheel to activate the performance pads. No way! The first time the music stops at a festival because the DJ's wrist brushes the jog wheel...it's going to be bad. And the sad part is, I know Pioneer put the performance pads where they did because they didn't want to be accused of copying Denon. There's no effing way that this got past any kind of DJ or focus group testing.
@soneil12
@soneil12 2 жыл бұрын
It's stupid really since pretty much every controller on the market (including ones made by Pioneer) put the pads in the more logical and easy to reach position below the jog wheel. Plus on top of that, the CDJ's performance buttons are dinky little things that feel nowhere near as good as the Denon ones and have far less functionality.

If I was a working DJ instead of one playing house parties for friends and having fun with it then I would have to go for the Pioneer because everyone does in club / venue world. I'm sure Pioneer could have made the 3000 more feature packed but as a couple of examples - dual layer on each deck makes it much easier to make a mistake and is just harder to use than four separate decks. The screen...it needs to work everywhere from the desert of Coachella to under the blinding lights of Ministry of Sound. Low glare plastic has more chance of survival. Having said all that, it's the Denon all day long for my needs. Way more features and half the price.

(FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW) "The Denon SC5000/SC6000 Rekordbox Import feature allows for DJs with song libraries created in Rekordbox to seamlessly and effortlessly plug into a Denon Prime system and have access to all Rekordbox playlists and songs, including hot cues and memory loops."
