Luke N Not all those that do Crossfit have that elitist attitude, but a lot do which turns people off. I wouldn't call it "quality" but whatever. Crossfit isn't "better" nor "worse" than any other type of training but it's well overpriced.
@lukeuseforce
@lukeuseforce 7 жыл бұрын
It's not overpriced at all. You get what you pay for. If you want a cheap place with no coaching, no successful programming, and no full time spotter, then go to THAT place. For the rest of us that want quality training, Crossfit is just one of many that offer QUALITY TRAINING(emphasizing not yelling). I have met ZERO CrossFitters with an ego. The Ego's are all on the outside, and if anyone dares to try it out, they quickly get humbled and come to the realization of how difficult and rewarding it is. CrossFit is great at what it does. You can't compare it to other programs, because that's not what it's purpose is. If your all about strength, you revolve your training 99% of the time around that. If you want balance and functionality, then you focus on that. It's absolutely QUALITY. People with your view point only trash talk CrossFit because you sit in your chair and watch KZbin of "CrossFit Fails" or other really poor representations of what it actually is.
@IdealUser
@IdealUser 7 жыл бұрын
You are a prime example of what attitude I'm talking about. Crossfit looks fun but again it's no better or worse than any other type of training. "It's not overpriced at all. You get what you pay for." Sure, some trainer have legitimate experience while others take a weekend course to be certified...that doesn't justify the cost. Second, every "box" is an affiliate. Ask yourself, how much money you pay goes to this Glassman guy for each box just to use the name? No different than any "globo" gym.

Chaos programming and an ethos of zero specificity will at best result in fat loss and nothing else, not to mention injury. If you've ever made gains in lifts just by crossfitting then you're detrained. Powerlift, bodybuild, weightlift. Learn the movement patterns over years. Crossfit has all the merit of zumba.

The current business model of your typical Planet Fitness is to sign up as many individuals as possible at $10-$20 a month, and pray that less than 5% of the total membership show up on a regular basis. The membership typically includes nothing but access to the gym facilities. It does not include programming. It does not include coaching. It does not include nutritional advice. It does not provide accountability. It does not provide a community of like-minded people that are there to get better. It does not provide a competitive environment. It provides exactly what it’s supposed to…..access. That’s it. For most of the general population, given access to a gym is like handing over the keys to a ferarri to a 16 year old girl with a permit that has never driven. The $100-$125 price point is justified and necessary. An average crossfit gym is only going to have anywhere from 100-200 members. Lets do some math…..lets say a Crossfit gym has 150 members. Lets say the membership only costs $30/month (hypothetical). You like paying just $30/month right? 150 x $30 = $4,500. A commercial real estate property is going to cost anywhere from $5K/month to $10k/month, so obviously that’s out of the question. Let’s say the Box owner got really lucky and found an industrial type property for $2k/month. Now let’s cover basic utilities $400/month electric, $100/month internet, $50/month water/sewer, $150/month cleaning supplies (including paper towels, toilet paper), and theres probably a few more that I haven’t accounted for i.e. insurance, taxes and fees, etc. So lets go off of what we have so far. $4500/month (membership) - $2K rent - $400 electric - $100 internet - $50 water/sewer - $150 cleaning supplies. That leaves the owner $1800/month to pay himself and he’s definitely going to need coaches, so that’s extra money to dish out. Just $1800 month……that’s it. That’s like making $28,000/year. Doesn’t sound too appealing does it. Especially given the fact that the majority of box owners are providing a superb service to their clients. I’d say they deserve more than 28k a year.

@IdealUser 7 жыл бұрын
Being a teen gymnast doesn't really "pay" your dues. I wouldn't take weightlifting advice from a gymnast anyways. Guys at my gym, older than Glassman, could probably teach him a thing or two. Anyone that advocates kipping pull ups and improper form to get AMRAP is a fool, hence Crossfit is lame and so are you.
@IdealUser
@IdealUser 7 жыл бұрын
As for "teen", no you didn't, but I read through some of Glassman's biography and it mention he competed as a teen in gymnastics=teen gymnast. Your last three points is why people hate CF. You think you're superior to everyone, think CF is the end all be all of fitness. That is why you are weak. Yes, I do read articles and videos about CF because I think that there is some benefit to some things, but there is a lot wrong with it too. I've visited a few "boxes", never signed up because of the poor form and not a single instructor made an effort to correct those that were doing a lift wrong. Sorry, but I'm not a fool that is going to pay for bad coaching. You probably are faster than me. There is a chance you are stronger than me...just maybe. Mentally tougher...no, your last few "points" proved that you aren't. Those that are mentally superior don't going around boasting how they are, which makes me doubt your claims but I could care less if you are or not. It's just showing how inferior you subconsciously believe yourself to be and have to overcompensate for something you don't have.

Your comment reeks of ignorance, circuit training was never organized in its current form until after Crossfit took off, most people cannot stay with Crossfit routines for long term so circuit training is more mild version of what Cross Fit is. He didn't put an image if you meet competitive cross fit people they are in better shape than most athletes on par with professional athletes in the NFL and Olympics. Many of those athletes use Cross Fit to maintain ready state fit level
