It's not about six-packs & winning the CrossFit Games. It's about longevity. It's about giving you the tools to live disease free & at full capacity into your 90s.
As CrossFit founder Greg Glassman has said, "We have an elegant solution to the world's most vexing problems, disguised as a sport."

Thank you for the talk. I wish this was way more forward in the crossfit world. I am 40 years old, 350 lbs and have been overweight since I was 18. I've tried all kinds of restrictive diets and failed. Now I have a health coach telling me to eat low fat foods and plenty of whole grains. I have tried working out and ended up hurt. A few months ago I moved to Cookeville, TN and starting seeing signs celebrating the town as home of the fittest man on earth. I drive by @crossfitmayhem everyday on the way to work but was sure that I could never do it, that crossfit was for the elites at the top of your teardrop. I had a friend start crossfit and he assured me I could do it. I starting digging deeper beyond the negative youtube press and realized that there is a passion for wellness there and a place for fat guys like me. I walked in, met the coaches and signed up for the intro class. I am in my second week and I can tell you anyone can do this. Its hard, but it is supposed to be. The coaches are more interested in protecting my safety then I am. They want to make sure you can finish the workout and still come back the next day. I can't say how far this journey will take me but so far its been a good start. Keep preaching this message... louder.

Have you looked into a whole food plant based diet? There's loads of info out there and science is backing this up. Here is a quick video of a medical doctor talking about it... kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5_IeWB4baaUaLs

I think a big part of the problem is that the Medical industry is more concerned about making money rather than the health of people.

For the people in the "trying" category, it's an injustice that they have been misinformed, because they have the drive. It's not ok.

Ben I TOTALLY agree with you and I “get it” but can’t afford what you’re selling! I’m a recent college grad that was an athlete for 16 Years and a division I college swimmer and would LOVE to do CrossFit and eat clean but when you’re working an entry level job you can’t afford $300 a month for a gym and hundreds of dollars a week at Whole Foods. If you all could figure out a way to make it more affordable I think a lot more people would join your program. I respect you to the highest regard but I think it’s hard to judge people that can’t afford what you’re selling....

Kaitlin Law You can follow CrossFit programming without going to a CrossFit gym, as a start. For instance, his CompTrain program is free, or 10 a month if you use the BTWB app with it. As for food, yeah that's a tough one. I suppose those of us lacking the funds for exclusively organic or high end produce/meats have to settle for the best we can afford, so long as it's within reason.

I agree with StarLord_Med. I myself am just like you, and I don't go to any gym. I have improvised all the equipment that I need (for example, filling up my school bags with books to use as dumbbells, or using the edge of my bed as a GHD machine), and I follow the CompTrain program, which is absolutely free. Of course, you won't have a coach to help you find your weaknesses or help you get proper form, but with all the experience you have, I don't think that should be a problem.

Look into different boxes and see what they offer, mine offers an "exchange program" where you can work a couple of hours a week at the box (either cleaning or the front desk) in exchange for a free membership. That's how I got started :) and if none of the boxes around you offer it, I'd still try to talk to them about doing it.

sports nutrition is a whole different scene. At certain levels supplements are necessary, but of course only as a complement to the already high quality diet. And yes, the main goal for competitive athletes is performance. They will try to look after themselves a best as possible, because a healthy athlete can keep up with training and they dont want to hit 40 and be wrecked.... but the main goal is performance first

Be really careful when you talk about diabetes. Type 2 can be fixed when doing crossfit and eating healthy. Type 1 cannot be fixed with exercise and diet. Type 1 is a hormonal or an organ issue.

Wolf Hunter ; I was merely making a comment that this is note than regurgitating a lecture from coach Glassman - no issue if this is communicated but I heard it as original content which I found dishonest. However, if it is in fact original then my apologies. John
