I don't think it's that bad of a comparison, Don Frye was built like a terminator even after he retired from competitive fighting. He used to roll occasionally in the wrestling room of my high school, and I was always in awe at how he managed to make even our linemen look like a puny shrimp (including myself, weighing 115kg at 6'1 at the time). I've competed in football, powerlifting, weightlifting, and strongman and have seen some real freaks of nature, but Frye still stands out in my mind as someone who was unnaturally large and powerful-looking.

His reality really crashed down on him (which I’ve been trying to tell explain to him for awhile) when at the end of the open maybe 3-4 years he was in the top 20. He went to the regional there which only had maybe 3 notable names at that regional. He was beat to shit like always by the end and ended up in the bottom 1/4 of the regional. Consistently one of the best at all the open workouts when it was a week in between (but you can try it multiple times) but when it comes to that engine (which he has a very strong engine) grind with 4+ usually brutal workouts per day he was getting beat by all sorts of people. Former natural body builder here. In the late 80’s i was competitive. Contest weight was 172 at 5% body fat. That was good enough to qualify for nationals. Local shows that were not natural you weren’t competitive unless you were 230 at 4%. Staying natural was a difficult decision but i was so glad i did. What is overlooked is is the emotional crash that the PED users go through when they finally quit and there sculpted body goes away and there strength is reduced by 50% or more. They look themselves in the mirror and realize the body and strength they had was completely synthetic and was a result of the drugs and not “Great Training”

@JohnSmith-yx8kf2 жыл бұрын
@@joys8634 It's both. When everyone in a sport is on gear, the genetically gifted and hardest working still rise to the top - strongman, bodybuilding, etc, nobody with average genetics is winning just because they're on more gear. It just sucks for those few that aren't doing it and actually believe they're on a fair playing field. Also, trust me, unless you need it for medical reason, it ain't worth it. TRT is a pain in the ass, and you're stuck with it. If they ever come out with a more convenient way of doing it, it'd be awesome.
@DOAN10002 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith-yx8kf is TRT muscle loyal after you stop it ? Also what do you mean by pain in the ass ? Genuine question
@JohnSmith-yx8kf2 жыл бұрын
DOAN1000 - You don’t stop TRT, that’s part of the ‘pain in the ass’ part of it. My situation: I was depressed and lacking energy when I was in my early 20s, no facial hair, etc. Went to the docs, T came back as the levels of a 65yo, along with under-active thyroid. After TRT my levels are now ~750ng/dl, which is on the higher side of average for my age, but it also won’t go down as I get older. As far as actual gym performance - more energy, can workout for longer, and if I have a break I lose muscle much slower. But you gotta remember this is in comparison to me having low-T before, so this is very likely what ‘normal’ feels like to you or anyone else who doesn’t need it. Just in terms of numbers, the chances that someone completely natural I meet in the street has higher T than I do are actually relatively high, so vs the general healthy population I’m not at some huge advantage, but this’ll change as I get into my late 30s and beyond. Why it’s a pain: there’s no real easy way of doing it. I inject once per week. If I wanna go on vacation or something, I gotta take this into account. It’s also not great for your actual muscles to be injecting them over and over - scar tissue buildup is a thing and you need to take active measures to minimize it otherwise you’re gonna regret it. You can do subcutaneous injections to avoid this but these aren’t very common at the moment and from what I’ve seen you need to do them daily, which isn’t something I’m interested in. And why I bring this up on a discussion about PEDs, is that if you do more than 1-2 cycles (which you will if you’re committing to take your sport to ‘that’ level), you’ll have permanently damaged your natural production and will be on TRT forever after you stop cycling. So yeah, unless your career is realistically on the line, don’t bother.

Years ago I started crossfit at 30 years old and in the beginning when crossfit wasnt that big of a sport I could compare myself to some of the elite athletes but after the big money purse all of a sudden things changed. I tried to keep up naturally and it wasnt happening. my body started breaking down so I stopped trying to be at that level. then all of a sudden athletes whose names I wont mention all of a suddent started getting stronger and stronger and at a fast pace.

If you had the goal of designing a sport from scratch for the purpose of selling PEDs you'd have a hard time doing better than CrossFit. Look at how dirty cycling and Olympic weightlifting are. At least in those sports it's easier to have a genetic outlier. We've all known an endurance freak or someone with insane type 2 fibers. But those two sports still are full of doping. You expect me to believe a sport that consists of both endurance and explosiveness to he clean? An crossfit athlete that is highly explosive but struggles with endurance would be highly motivated to use something like EPO or cardarine. The reverse is true for a CrossFit athlete coming from an endurance background.

The absolute top end range for elite natural female strength athletes is 19-22, and anything above that is either an absolute unicorn of genetics or highly suspect of steroid usage.

I remember the first time I got a feel for the whole drug world. I was in the army and my training partner got hurt. While he was gone on leave, my girl and I fought and she left me. So...I threw myself into working out. I mean, I was doing it before, but now I was kinda punishing myself with it. If you know, you know. Anyway when he came back he was amazed at my progress. He kept asking me what I did and all I knew about was protein and Hydroxicut, lol. So my buddy started asking me about steroids. And I was like, "what? Dude I ain't THAT big!" I laughed it off. Later I was chosen for a piss test. Twice in one week. And finally one of the supply sgts told me that I was suspected of steroids and that the tip came from my buddy. I couldn't believe it. We stopped hanging out after that. I lost all motivation because of it. People really will throw you under the bus because they fell behind you. So I give people the benefit now.
