Crossing a Beaver Dam to Hunt Ruffed Grouse!

It's early November, the leaves are down and I'm crossing a beaver dam to hunt ruffed grouse. This is a spot I've known about for a few years, but never hunted it. In hopes of finding some unpressured birds, my Brittany Yeti and I, crossed the dam to hunt the other side.

Hey , it is your job to make video content that real hunters and real dog owners can make sense of , and only at that moment can it become good content !!!!!! Stop posting you and your little dogs walking Thur so called north woods ( grouse woods ) and videoing small alders bushes , and that’s air the viewers / content you can see .... stupid stuff ....

It is a road flooded by the beaver dam. You drive across it. Simple. That's how your cross to the other side. Your truck will not flood.

Enjoyed the video by November you can tell what birds have been pressured for sure. The hunts will get tougher and as they do only the real grouse hunters will still chase them as hard as in the beginning. Keep up the great job Cliff.

Hey bro just a tip. I always carry water socks in my truck and a pair if swim trunks for crossing beaver ponds. It's lightweight and works great. I usually get across, change out and carry on. Typically as I'm changing out a few grouse I didn't see flush on me 😂. Great video as always. God bless

Western UP normally that first week of October is peaks as the leaves fall starts snowing . Moves east each week.. our lew setter will start flushing them at us if they won't hold.. same thing on pheasants we shoot plenty flying at us .. see picked that up running with our lab .. she will normally bump the first one can tell she adjusts herself almost like she's disappointed it flew off .. happens again she will circle out front of them.. things are hard to hit flying at ya thou . I really like how the sight picture on a side by side looks when I pull up. It feels like my eye is just naturally attracted to the center between the barrels. The best thing to do is handle a few different guns and see what you do and don’t like about them.

It’s pretty hard to not find them in most places. I didn’t say it was completely off the beaten path. You can access it from the other side by a trail, and private borders it as well that people can come from. Coming from the other side was a long drive out of the way, its much tougher to get to. I’m sure some side by sides and off road vehicles could pass through the water as well. I did run into a guy trapping beavers on the other side, but I didn’t find any sign of bird hunters.

I enjoyed watching this one. It reminded me of a similar adventure I had last year here in Northern MN. Basically an old tote road had become washed out due to a low grade next to a swamp, making it impassable to the ATV/UTVs that usually used it. I was compelled to walk around the swamp 1.5 miles to the other side where an old logging spur awaited. I kid you not, I flushed 50+ birds that day WITHOUT A DOG… Great video

Nice to see some grouse woods. I haven’t hunted them since college days 68 to 72 in Athens Ohio. No dogs buddy and I would just walk the woods stop every 10 yards and they would flush a lot of time being nervous. And I always leave my chest waders in the truck just in case! Thanks for sharing.

@@WASHINGTONSTATEDOGTRAINER thanks for your reply, even if it was a bit difficult to understand. Your grammar, spelling and overall poor sentence structure (or lack thereof) speaks volumes. I also noted that you seem angry that this young man makes money on KZbin. Could that be because he actually has subscribers to his channel and you have none? Road hunting, by the way, most generally refers to people who drive vehicles down roads and shoot at game from said vehicles…not hunters, who, on foot, shoot birds over a pointing dog. You have as much knowledge about bird hunting as you do subscribers to your KZbin channel….again, none.
