No bell for partridge, but for pheasant I do. Pheasant hunting up in New York can have a few hunters in the area, it just makes me feel like I need to take more precautions.

I would never consider using a bell on my pointer for most of my upland bird hunting but it doesn’t seem to phase the ruffed grouse and woodcock right?

A leather or neoprene gun stock protector is a handy tool, especially if you want to preserve a beloved and sentimental piece! I find that the fore-end and receiver area are fine due to being guarded by my hands, but the butt stock is vulnerable to exposure.

I'm not sure if you'll see this on this older video but I've always wondered what do you do to keep your dogs cool when they're sitting in the truck while you're out hunting

Where in AZ were you?

Yeah - guns, ammo, chokes; all can be aurgued until the rooster goes to roost - whatever you feel works best, is likely fine. I generally use IMP/Mod (20 ga.) for most of the season; turning to 3" rounds as the season progresses - multiple states, all wild birds. If I feel the need, I will bump up a gauge - from 20 to 12 - but use the same choke combo. As a dog trainer, I enjoy your little Britts a bunch. All together, "Well done!"

What kind of side by side are you using? I know it's a 20 gauge because of the shells, but what make and model? You are a good shot with it. And are those Brittany Spaniels you are hunting with?

What state are you in, may I ask? Or are you up in Canada? And if so, where? I love hunting grouse with a bird dog and have to get a new puppy as my 12 yr old Standard Poodle died back in Sep 2023, and she retrieved right at 800 birds in her career. I am down in Texas now, and will have to drive a distance to grouse hunt but I will do it. Most of mine were taken in Oregon and maybe 15% were taken in north Idaho.

I lived in oracle for 10 years ,guided quail hunting for 9 . I noticed that your gun was loaded with 5 rounds. In Az three shells is the max on shells . waterfowl is also only three as per fed regs, as well as no tox shot. Do not get caught, Az game and fish are brutal on offenders, especially out of state hunters.
