GTA5 become boring because you dont have the restriction on which areas you can explore on early game, they just literally opened the entire area for easy play. The only "restriction" in the game was North Yankton and Trevor Phelps mission where both of them are on different areas but Trevor's can be accessed after you play the story for some time. It will be more fun if they still have the restriction though because players will have smart way on crossing the restricted areas without being chased by polices.

BTW, if you wanna see something extremely cool, check any form of speedrun in San Andreas of collectibles: horseshoes, snapshots or clams. They're all done since the beginning of the game, which means crossing the border to Venturas or the Badlands will obtain a wanted level AND still need to collect them even with the cops in your tail. Those speedruns are very entertaining.

what i find kinda neat about GTA 4 is that you can actually trespass the borders pretty far if the cops don't see you. if you for instance take the walkway of the Broker and Algonquin Bridge, you can travel a significant distance. for the Broker Bridge you get 6 stars after you've crossed like half of the walkway. for the Algonquin Bridge it triggers 6 stars once you walk over Colony Island.

In Vice City, there is another way to go to the second island. Take an ambulance and go to the port where Cortez's yacht is. Park the ambulance rear side just next to the portal. Climb on the ambulance, and jump multiple times in the portal direction. You will finish by accede to the port, and the boats who are parked there.

There's another way of crossing the island in SA using a glitch into Flint County. If you drive a train in reverse toward Flint County, you can go through the barricade. Even, you can go to Bone County through there. But, this only works if you're lucky. The train may slow down and stop before the barricade, sometimes it will cross one barricade but not the second one.
