The trestle probably didn't even notice the extra weight of all those people. Thanks for taking us along!!

The fall colours are really magnificent, such a beautiful time of year but then all of the seasons have their own unique look. Thank you for sharing. x

It really was another fun day. Feeling the history and trying to imagine what that all looked like in its heyday.

Im watching this 3 years later so no one probably will see my comment but....oh...my...God!!! When you were out on the trestle and panned around i almost though up. I even got dizzy. No amount of money or even tbe man of my dreams could get me to cross that. You are beyond brave.❤❤❤

It's too bad that the kids have to Graffiti everything up. The kids are wrecking the beautiful boulders out on the Susquehanna River between York and Lancaster County PA. They have to take something so aesthetically beautiful and just ruin it!

If there was any video footage of that location in its working years, it's probably in the attic of some old house in Bunker Hill, Dunmore !!!

Is that an officially abandoned line? or is it still held by a railroad? Sometimes they may not be in use currently and can sit for years decaying, but still owned by a company like CSX or Norfolk Southern. That being said you got to be careful they could charge you with trespassing, I doubt they care though, they have more pressing matters.

What the heck is that below the trestle to the right around 13:24 when you panned to the right? More ruins? Or just a natural formation?

It is not abandoned. It is just not being used at the moment. If it was abnadoned they would be forced to dismantle it. They pay taxes on it.
@coldblue9mm4 жыл бұрын
carlhalvorson Where did you come up with that thought? There’s abandoned trestles all over. How are they gonna tax a company that no longer exists?
@kman-mi7su4 жыл бұрын
@@coldblue9mm Its a possibility, the railroad that built it may be long gone, but oftentimes those companies' properties are acquired by other railroads. It wouldn't surprise me if CSX or Norfolk southern owns the structure still. Sometimes they hold on to old lines like that one for future plans such as new industries to service along the line, or even to re-route train paths. You'd be surprised but quite a few lines are still out there that trains run on regularly. I've seen rails dated from the early 1900s to the late 1890s that are still used, not as a mainline usually, but do see monthly use. If there is a possibility of customers to service and it makes financial sense, they'll refurbish this line. I live near a railroad bridge in Virginia that is part of a mainline and sees heavy daily traffic that bridge has been in heavy use since 1913.
@coldblue9mm4 жыл бұрын
@@kman-mi7su I'm not saying that bridge could never be used again either. They overbuilt structures back in the day, to last for many, many years. But to say they would be forced to dismantle it is a stretch. And I've seen very old rail still in use on industrial tracks and even yard tracks. But this trestle will never see another train and to think it will is a pipe dream. Once a rail line is torn up in the U.S. it's extremely unlikely someone will rebuild the road bed to service a couple of customers. It would take hundreds of years to cover the expense of putting the line back in. You wouldn't believe the cost of doing so. But I don't know much about railroads. I only worked for a major class one for 40 in the engineering/track side of the business. Have a good day.
@gregrowe11684 жыл бұрын
That trestle would collapse under the weight of a train now. No way a train ever crosses it again.
@kman-mi7su4 жыл бұрын
@@gregrowe1168 Nah, Not necessarily, while the decking and track may be in bad shape. The stone foundation was built to last and there are trestles as old and similar to this one still in service. I live near a steel one built by American Bridge Company in 1913 rusty as can be and it sees daily traffic of about 15-20 CSX and Amtrak trains a day.
