A few years ago a cell phone user plowed into the back of my vehicle, totally my car and giving me lifelong pain/injury from the accident. It is estimated that over 3500 deaths a year are caused by distracted driving that would have otherwise been prevented. I question your cavalier attitude, maybe you'll feel differently if something like that ruined your health and put you into a permanantly disabled state where you'd be bedridden or in a wheelchair rather than having the freedom of your van. Not sure how many people die from drinking a Slurpee, I'm betting not 3500 a year. Laws matter.

I think the crucial difference between CB radios and cell phones is the visual component. Living in a very crowded county, I’m not afraid of people who are talking on the radio. It’s the people who drive along at 40-50 mph while looking down, watching videos or reading texts on their phone, who cause accidents and terrify me

Also, so many people have no judgement or discipline, now. The texting thing became absolutely deadly, and they still catch people texting! When people doing stupid things start killing people, laws are made.

For the past several years I've been threatening my children that I was just going to get myself an RV, toss the cats into it, and take off. Then I would not have to bother with all the silliness of owning an older home. Then I could have freedom to go where I want to go. Unfortunately, your experience is making me rethink that whole idea. You're a great lady and I am happy that you are living the dream, but I'm beginning to think it may not be the best for me. Good luck and God bless!

Never take your personal rig into Mexico, in ‘81 my friend n I were in his Dodge van, got pulled over from Mexican police, he demanded 25$ on the spot or drive to the station for a fine of 35$. My friend George asked the stereotypical cop if he knew his Grandfather, the cop said who’s your Tata, George replied…Senor Navaratte (retired border patrol on the TJ side), the cop’s mouth opened and tried to give the monies back but George said keep it - it’s going to be your severance pay, it was classic, as we drove away he was still standing there. I asked George are you going to tell ur Grandfather, he said Yes, that cop just loss an extremely lucrative job, and on we went to San Felipe, BC at the sea of Cortez and ate shark tacos for two days at 25 cents a piece. Miss ya George, we certainly had lots of adventures, still remember the Mexican sandals always makes me smile and laugh.

They tried to jail my brother for not enlisting in the Mexican Army since he had just turned 18..AND..they were asking him if he was mexican since he looked white. After mom tried to explain for hours with documents that she had on my brother, they wouldn't let him go. Mom called our relative the federal police, and he planned his escape..he told them that my brother was HIS prisoner and he would take him through the border. It worked. I will never go back to Mexico again.

The depth of the nanny state in America is scary. All the steps just to get a prescription filled. I am retired in South East Asia where a doctors prescription (not required) is easy to fill anywhere as long as they are open and you can pay for it. No questions asked unless you are trying to buy lots of drugs that get people high. You can only buy a small amount of those. One thing that shocks Americans is how cheap drugs are here (except aspirin that is hard to find and expensive due to the amount of people with dengue fever). The people in these developing countries can't afford the endless layers of unneeded people that are in everything in America and Europe. I was able to buy Iv-rme-tin over the counter. We were not forced to get vaccinated or punished if we didn't. So I took 6mg every 10 days throughout the covid outbreak and stayed healthy never catching the virus. My 74 year old immune system did the job.

I love Mexico. For 5 years we travelled from Saskatchewan Canada for 6 months to Mexico in our RV. once in Mexico we stayed at many Pemex gas stations. They cater to semis. The compound they have has armed guards and is gated. Very cheap. They have showers, restaurants, RV washes and interior cleaning. The people are awesome and helpful. They speak English too. Stay on the toll roads because they are safer. I had no fear. The people are open and friendly. I can't wait to get back. Mi seganda casa.❤

We usually travel to Mazatlan. They have RV sites. We tow a car and drive around the city. easy peasy.

Fluconazole is sold over the counter in Mexico for 1/4 price also if you need any dental work for you or the dog it’s way cheaper! Vets in Mexico are a fraction of the price

Carolyn, I am a Baby Boomer and had even fewer restrictions than you. I was in high school when that song “Convoy’ came out. LOL I don’t think you can compare CB radio and cell phone use. CB radios are used by such a small percentage of the population, (pro truckers) and almost never by teens. Yet, every driver in the country has a cell phone. And there are a lot more drivers out there nowadays. I’m an English teacher and the students and I looked up all the statistics in response to a writing prompt about changing the driving age for safety reasons. A leading cause of death for teens and young adults, is car accidents from distracted driving or being “impaired.” There are so many choices of phone holders to attach to the dashboard, windshield, sun visor, etc. It isn’t that inconvenient. Some of these laws were put in place after years of lobbying by MADD ( mothers against drunk driving.) It’s a small price to pay for saving lives.

I live in Tucson Arizona. I don’t know what the attraction is to go to Mexico. Specially, now with everything going on over there I don’t know what you’re thinking. That’s all I could say I wouldn’t touch it.

It is very safe here. Just what do you think is going on here. We are in our 70’s and have been coming for years.

@@christinaeaton8733 Safe in Mexico? You must be kidding. I'm glad you have not had a bad experience. If you doubt what I am saying, just read the newspapers.

@@suzieq1704 I am here presently therefore do not have to read the newspapers and have been coming for 5 months every winter and never had a problem. I feel as safe here as I do at home. We travel everywhere by public transportation and have had nothing but good experiences with the Mexican people.

Roof shingles might help getting unstuck. Lay them just under the front edge of the tires for traction... just like for snow/ice. Have fun, safe travels.
