That landing craft is likely now a car ferry. They have one of those that runs from Amelia Island to Cumberland Island, or at least did a few years back. Never had reason to transit my vehicle on it myself. Not sure if it was scheduled but likely was on call, as needed. The one at Amelia was a wooden boat and not a landing craft for what that is worth, it tied up at the boat landing or a dock to unload and load. Carrabelle is like Fernandina Beach in that they both still have a commercial fishing industry, mostly shrimping at Fernandina and I think the same at Carrabelle.

A nice place to hang out .......I bought a westerly sailboat out of that harbor some yrs ago......place is looking different.....ahhhh sh*t. happens everywhere. Thanks for the update vids. Used to be bull sharks in that harbor and right up the river

I'm dumping my 50-foot schooner to go back to my 50-year old Westerly Centaur. Much easier to handle, tons of storage space and I'm hoping I'll have it back in the water by the time Brenton gets into the Chesapeake Bay this summer.

Carabelle is another nice place on The Forgotten Coast/Big Bend area. I'm glad that things look so good because that hurricane targeted this area last year. I stayed in Apalachicola last summer just days before I got my cancer diagnosis. I'm so glad I made that trip even though I was feeling pretty bad. I got to feeling much, much worse for months after that trip.. Glad you enjoyed your time there.

Wow. Just started following you a week ago, starting with episode 1, im up to 4. I’m in Carabelle right now vacationing from Canada. I saw your boat anchored out in the river. I convinced myself it wasn’t you because I didn’t recognize your towable boat. So cool to see it! How long you here for?

We've gotta' ask Harry Belafonte about that. I'm pretty sure he was stacking those bananas in a 'boat' of some kind.@@brianquinn3451

Hey Brenton! My wife and I also enjoy Carabelle which we visit off and on through the winter. We have similar tastes as we prefer the quieter small beach towns. Seems they are only found both there and steinhatchee. Of course the beach is only in carabelle. We passed you and Wayne on the way to the Keys last year on your scooters 😊. Sounds like you had as much use for the Keys as we did 😂

interesting place. Is all the rebuilding from hurricane damage? like the landing craft, a smaller version with a side by side would be the adventurers dream. No on the Willard ! No bananas on board...oranges and lemons for scurvy prevention, bacon dog treats to prevent crew mutiny.

@doncollins7866 ай бұрын
I have been looking at Willards since we spoke about it the other day. I see the basic lines of a Willard there, but, what the heck? That thing is hideous, IMO. Yeah, like they extended the roofline and enclosed the aft deck, then poured a 5 gallon bucket of UGLY all over it.. :) @@brentonsriversidehermitage

@brentonsriversidehermitage6 ай бұрын
Funny you ask! :) I left a slice of bread out last night and who came out to chew on it? That mouse! It has to be living either in the ceiling or under the floor. It's learned to be quiet too. The mouse that did the loop! Stowaway! Lol

When did you start this channel?
@brentonsriversidehermitage5 ай бұрын
Many years ago ;) I just never promote it.
@pethsm6 ай бұрын
This channel is about 500 miles farther south than Back Waters and Back Roads right now. Since you can float in less than 18" of water, is it necessary to do the 67 miles jaunt across the gulf? Why can't you hug closer to shore - or is it more dangerous to be crossing in the shallows than the deep? (I am a nautical idiot - forgive me)
@brentonsriversidehermitage6 ай бұрын
That's a great question. Nutshell: yes, absolutely we could hug the shoreline and probably be fine. The "problem" is how much longer that would take, and the tides and finding protected anchorages to tuck into. We could totally do it and pop into several official and often overlooked places up in the bend, but crossing over to Steinhatchee in one really long day sort of gets a challenging part of the trip over with in one day. Weather windows seem to be short lived and uncommon this time of year.
