Smart crossing; i.e., waiting for the weather to be right! Forecasts are better today than they were 30 years ago when we sailed from Apalachicola to Clearwater - 147 nautical miles. Boy do we have stories to tell! Awesome job on the crossing, I've only done Destin to Tampa or further south like the keys by boat. You did it in a in a none ocean going vessel too. That's a lot of open water to just trust a forecast. I think the stress level you had was under stated. That big bind is the Wild West. I'm confident that if you talk to locals you will hear a lot of stories about the 70s-80s.

I used to hire out as Captain a lot of people who come into my area here on lake Cumberland and rent houseboats especially the large 80 foot house boats don't trust yourself to be able to maneuver and they're more than willing to pay a hillbilly like me a few dollars to Cap,it for them, it also helps if you're a half-ass guitar player like me and don't drink too much of their beer,, but for people who don't own boats one of the hardest things to get across was the fuel versus speed, and when it's taken 4 to 800 dollars to fill up they can get real tight with their checkbooks real quick 😝

Ah, the long-awaited Gulf Crossing .. it looks like you picked a perfect day for it. Couldn't ask for much better. You must be blessed No need to stress out too much about the crab pots, since you have an outboard, which you can unfoul your prop without getting wet .. it's much worse for people that have inboards, which there's no way to unfoul the running gear without diving underwater, sometimes requiring scuba gear . But I know those crab pots are a pain in the butt to avoid, since I still remember dodging those myself when I used to travel at night from Old Saybrook CT. to Montauk Point NY..... Anyways, you did a great job and showed everyone that the boat made it across the Gulf without any problem or being in danger..👍
@joeshevlin11888 ай бұрын
I love the videos! Even when there isn't a lot to "see". I didn't realize there were such long open water crossings on the loop, that must've been hard on Wavey! As I've been watching these first 30 some videos I think I would've done a small change to the rear deck especially for Wavey. I would cut out a section of the solid deck right out of the back door and replace it with some grating, then I would put some sort of astro turf over it so Wavey could pee on the move or at least when a trip to shore isn't convenient. The pee would just flow through the fake grass and then you could just pour a bucket of water over it to kinda wash it through. Just a thought from another set of eyes 😀 Love the content!
@backwatersandbackroads8 ай бұрын
A lot of boaters males one kind of astro turf thing similar to what you're describing. The "problem" with Wavey is, she's SO well trained in a way, that she will not pee!! I've tried everything I can think of, but she will only poop, and that's rare. It's a problem ill keep working on. Usually we get to shore at least twice a day
