A lot of people don’t always appreciate that the video they just watched actually had so much effort poured into it. This video perfectly demonstrates what it is to be fully committed to giving a great visual experience. You cover everything from musical mood, angles and voice editing as well as much more. KZbin viewers (sometimes unknowingly) demand that the quality be as good as regular tv channels and this is what you are delivering. I commend you on your dedication and can only say that it’s a real pleasure to see your videos. Thank you so much for sharing. An expat in Sydney who once did what you are doing. From one more Day

Thank you so much, and you are so right. Until we started this vlogging journey ourselves we never realised quite how much went into producing the videos, and you totally understand it. It’s been a steep learning curve for sure, teaching myself how to edit, adjust sound levels, source music etc, but it’s been so rewarding! We have had comments from those expecting the quality to be that of a tv programme, exactly as you’ve said, and I secretly have a little chuckle to myself sat with my iPhone and laptop and a cheap external microphone as my ‘production studio’ 😊

@@onedaymoreaboard But…but…but ….it is AMAZING what you CAN produce with an iPhone and iMovie !! And you will only get better at it. (I have NO idea why anyone would demand tv quality on KZbin . Yes, some channels are, but everyone was in a learning curve at one point !)

Thank you for your lovely praise. And honestly, you wouldn’t believe some of the comments we (and other vlogger friends) get about the quality not being up to scratch for them. My thoughts on that are this is FREE content, and there’s a scroll bar if you don’t like it 😂

I wanted to live on a narrowboat when the kids were young but got out-voted three to one. Over the last year or so, I’ve been looking at a few narrowboat vlogs (well ok, quite a lot really) to see what’s changed. I have to say what an amazing set of vlogs you guys produce - there aren’t many that match this quality. And… you are the only channel I’ve watched that includes black and white images in your vlogs: I absolutely love the atmosphere you capture with them. Every time one appears, I pause the vlog to have a better look. Thanks so much for the effort involved - it’s really appreciated.

Wow! That is so wonderful to hear, and such high praise. We watched so many narrowboat vlogs when we were planning this new life aboard, and it feels good to give back to those doing the same, or just because they enjoy the relaxation of the cruising videos and lifestyle. It's been a very steep learning curve, but now I've got to grips with it and found my formula that works, it's just so enjoyable, capturing the photos and footage, and then the editing process. It's great to get fantastic feedback like yours. Thank you so much 😊

After nearly being driven mad by all the KZbinrs going down the Llangollen. I found this video a breath of fresh air, a totally different perspective, with interesting dialogue. That's so good to hear that you enjoyed this very different take on this trip! You're right that there were many vloggers on the Llangollen last year, many forced there by closures due to maintenance issues or lower water on many stretches of other canals. Your eagle eye spotted the repetition! Sometimes I become blind to it myself when you're watching everything over and over. 😊

Isn't it just stunning! We walked across it one busy bank holiday, before we were in the area with our boat, and I have to say going across by foot with lots of pedestrian traffic was far more scary than going across in the boat. Thank you so much, praise like this makes our day! Alex has written a couple of pieces that I use, but I am worried about any copyright issues. Not sure if you watch Heidi The Narrowboat Pirate, who writes and uses all of her own music, but she has a copyright claim against herself most weeks from KZbin! It's crazy when it's music that belongs to her. It's just a very careful path we are treading to not upset KZbin and risk getting a ban! So that's why I tend to stick to using Epidemic Sound music that I have paid the subscription for.

So much to comment on. I love your boat. The color is quite striking. How in the devil did they build that aqueduct 220 years ago with no modern equipment and it is still standing and operational today? A marvel for sure. Thanks for sharing the make/model of your drone and the editing software you use. Your background music selections are appropriate, and the volume is just right. (You once used music produced by Alex in a video, so I thought all of your music was his.) Love how you intersperse the still shots and black and whites. I watch an embarrassing amount of narrowboat videos on KZbin, so I may be considered a bit of a connoisseur of the genre. Yours are the best!

(but now retired) But looking over the side of that would scare the 'living daylights' out of me. Weather is cool here - had snow but it's since melted. Day time temps from high 20's to low 40's. Night are always at or around 32F (0C) or a bit lower. Thank you again for the video. Hope the family / puppies and you are doing well. God Bless. No there is no AC, apart from opening a window! And yes there have been times when have missed our Texas AC so much! There was a crazy late heatwave 2 weeks after we moved onto the boat in September 2021 which was a bit of a shock, and then last summer we had record high temperatures and decided to go into a marina and buy a large fan to plug into main electricity and not worry about whether we had enough power in our batteries. You can see that all here in our Lincoln video kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJXYp4eEnqh6mM0si=1kBMdh3USJYHm6g5. Thanks for watching 😊

It was interesting to see what goes into the editing. I know it's a labor intensive job. I took a class in the late 90's but I was more interested in the graphics side. I have to wonder what could take a big chunk out of that trough? It looks too strong to just break and I just can't imagine how it happened. The height would be thrilling but that missing metal would worry me. 🥴

I really enjoy the editing process now I have got to grips with it. It was a very steep learning curve at first! I didn't notice that chunk out the side until I was reviewing the footage! I know they have a strict inspection and maintenance schedule for these historic strictures all over the network. Last year they closed the pedestrian access to the aqueduct for a while when they inspected and replaced some of the railings, and in January they will be draining the aqueduct to inspect and make any repairs to the iron trough that carries the water. We are hoping to take a trip to see that being done as that would be quite the spectacle! As always, thanks for watching, and we love that you are a part of our little online community 😊

@@onedaymoreaboard Everything does go better when things fall into place. Not feeling up to the job is never a good feeling. It would be great to see them inspect and clean the trough. I just can't imagine what could be strong enough to take that hunk of metal off. I did notice some of the railings looked newer. Thanks!

What video software do you use?
@onedaymoreaboard
@onedaymoreaboard Жыл бұрын
I use iMovie. It does everything I need and after a very steep learning curve, I'm not sure I want to teach myself anything else, although I know there is more advanced editing software out there. Vlogging friends have used DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro 😊

Absolutely terrific video and pics. Did you or the boys have the heebie jeebies moment while crossing ? I love taking pictures too but at challenging locations there's usually a split second moment when I think, "oh s..t, what if something goes wrong here. I'll be in deep kimchi"😅
@onedaymoreaboard

Thanks so much! Deep in kimchi, that's a great phrase 😂. I was the only one who really did have a little wobbly moment, but it soon went as I was so focussed on getting some great photos and video footage I sort of forgot how high up we actually were!

Remember the scene in "the Goonies" where the kids see the pirate ship for the first time? The director chose to hide the ship from them so he could film their reaction upon seeing it. They had to edit a lot of it out because most of them swore. You having to film a PG version of Alex's reaction reminded me of this. 😂

I totally remember that scene and you’re so right! When I was filming Alex and he wasn’t too PG in his choice of words I stopped filming and said ok do it again but sound just as amazed but just don’t say bad words as we don’t have that sort of channel 😂😂😂

Is that eight feet wide there in the trough of the aqueduct? Standard boat width is 6 feet ten inches? Obviously not metric.
@onedaymoreaboard
@onedaymoreaboard 11 ай бұрын
I’ve done a little research and it says great the aqueduct is 12ft wide, but that includes the tow path. Looking at the space either side I am guessing the trough is about 8ft. It’s a tight fit for sure! It’s 5.5ft deep, but I wouldn’t want to get out and test that 😂

Yes it’s an iron trough. It’s actually empty at the moment for inspection and repairs, as part of this year’s winter works. We are hoping to drive up there to get some video of it! 😊

Back in the day, did the horse's pull the barge, or did man pull it ?. I would of thought the horses would of been scared.

I think that the horses pulled them over the aqueduct too as they would have had to cross somehow themselves. I tried to find any information but couldn’t find anything specific sadly.

Thank you for your compliments about Alex’s music. Unfortunately he hasn’t done enough professional sounding recordings of his music to have enough to use for the vlogs. Also, even though they are free to use for us, the licensing and copyright issues you venture into with KZbin are such a minefield that I don’t want to tackle. I have a couple of vlogger friends that write and use their own music in their videos and each time they release a video they get a copyright strike from KZbin against themselves and have to appeal it! It’s far easier for us to use a resource such as Epidemic Sound that already has agreements in place with KZbin to be mostly hassle free. Thanks for watching 😊
