H & M trails are exactly why I am builidng one of these. I went last year with a group and only have a '04 Jeep TJ that I used to offroad at Rausch Creek. Unfortunately H&M doesn't allow ORVs except for a limited amount of trails. Love your design and videos. Thanks for producing these!

You could use woven nylon ratchet straps for the floor of the roof rack.

Great suggestion, but nylon webbing for upholstery is a better option; it's more durable.

I would consider using expanded metal or for light weight, using ceder boards like used on privacy fencing. Would require a good deal of sanding but weathers well and won't add much weight to the top. Can you believe how long it has been since you offered the plans to your followers? We still look forward to your upgrades and I would love to see the two-seater completed with the whole family running around the yard together in their own Crosskart. I have been thinking about a three wheeled version for street use in Louisiana. Four wheeled homemade Crosskarts style vehicles are not allowed in this state for street use except when registered in other states. But laws do allow for three wheeled homemade for non-Interstate driving. City and state roads not to exceed 55 MPH are allowed to be titled for street use. Could use a motorcycle frame and rear suspension for the drivetrain.

I prefer teak or white oak; both are strong, durable and easily workable(moreso than cedar). As Kyle said in the video I suggested wood slats in the style of vintage Volkswagen accessory roof racks from the 50s and 60s, and we are both VW enthusiasts

Thanks for putting out another video, been looking forward to it. Cool place to mount a spare and preserver the great visibility of the VF Kart.

KJ - I build drive lines every day, but I'd rather use my skills to build ORVa that thrust people's dreams of flying off a sand dune!

I plan on making one of these carts in the near future so my unrelated question to this video is how can you gain more ground clearance without adding bigger tires?
@KJRaycing7 ай бұрын
Yes. Check out the safari mode video where I show you how to max out the suspension.

How hard would it be to put a 78 VW air cooled engine in the big one? I'm also curious about something like a Subaru Boxer engine. My idea is to build something on the order of a trophy cart that's agile enough to go over large rocks, logs, and any other obstacle that isn't higher than the mid point of the front tires which I'm going as big as I can with.

Those drivetrain options would nearly double the weight of a kart, you're probably better off doing a single-seater VW rail buggy like a Funco or Chenowth
